Right... this week my horse has turned into devil horse!!!
Has anyone else found their horse turn a bit fresh recently? Tonight I thought I was riding a rocking horse instead of my normal laid back horse.

I am thinking on putting him back on magic mix, does anyone else use/recommend any calmers?

Thanks!!

Both of mine are demented at the moment - I think it's the spring grass. I took the mare out for a hack this morning - normally she's really placid, but she was jogging and squeaking and the gelding clobbered the farrier's apprentice last night.....farrier said that all the horses are the same at this time of the year, but that they calm down again in a couple of weeks....

Spring grass is lower in magnesium and also much higher in energy. Simultaneously this can have an exciting effect.

Dont bother with Magic- its a rip off. There are loads of other magnesium supplements that would help at a fraction of the price. And cut out/down your hard feed if you havnt already.

Of course there are loads of other reasons, such as tack fit, bit, teeth, lack of turnout....

My horse is a bit nutty getting in from the field. Normally he's perfectly fine, recently he's been rearing up when being caught

Thanks teddyt- can you recommend any magnesium supplements? I used to use magic and found it did have some effects, however the price was a drainer!!

I think its defintely the grass which is causing this behaviour, he gets roughly 10-12 hours turnout a day and has only turned devil like this week... even coming in from the field he has to jog

Magnesium oxide is cheap. Ask your local feed merchant if they can get it for you. The Equimins brand also do good specification products at a fair price if you cant find magnesium oxide.
The magnesium used in magic is very cheap and also the least available to the horse following digestion- you are paying for the name and marketing, not the ingredients.
