Having seen the thread about falling off and thinking hardly ever, fell off twice today.
My horse was seen by the vet this morning and checked over as she’s been having treatment for navicular and hocks (she’s had physio a couple of weeks ago and acupuncture just before). She previously had a sore back caused by saddle issues, but now has a new saddle and vet thought her back was fine. She was a bit sore when the physio saw her.
So vet cleared her to start cantering / schooling after 6 months of rehab, starting with cantering out hacking and said fine to take her out today. So thought great. Last time I took her round the fields she’s thrown in a buck when i wouldn’t let her canter. So this time we were trotting and same place she bucked and I exited the saddle, she stopped a few strides away and munched the grass.
Got back on. Walked her on the bit she bucked, seemed fine, trotted some more. Then thought I’d let her canter on the other rein. As I asked for canter she bucked, I exited. She galloped off bucking. Then had a very scary moment as she galloped off out of the field and headed home via another field / road. Ran after her, thank goodness found her at the field gate.
Walked her back to where we had parted company got back on. Walked her round the field. I’d lost her in. Trotted in big circles in the next field. The took her home.
When she bucked the first time I’d say fresh and wanting to canter… maybe the same the second? But know it can be a sign of pain. Seeing my coach tomorrow so will discuss with them. Also need to build my confidence back… her running off really scared me, as did falling off twice (once is ok!!).
