So, I have a big black cob who is ruled by his stomach and needs constant management to keep him from gorging himself to a fat blob. He is barefoot and fed pure feed balancer with biotin for his feet. He is out grazing at the moment and I've made him a short paddock to stop him gorging, and have been gently moving the fence back to stop him being stuck with stressed grass. This has been ok, and we've done lots of exercise. A friend came to ride him at the weekend and she gave him some polos. Yesterday I rode him and he was really foot sore in his fronts. He was ouchy on the track up to the stables. I brought him in and felt his feet and for a digital pulse. There was no heat and no pulse but he was ouchy. I left him overnight with some old hay and water and he seemed a lot happier this morning. Will he be ok? What more should I do? Should I keep him in longer? (the stables are over the road from the summer paddock tho). I'm hoping it was the polo s but it seemed quite a severe change?

I would suspect laminitis too. I have heard people say an attack has been triggered by a polo but more likely the horse was already right on the edge. The grass has been so difficult to read this year as dry then wet. Normally by July you can breath a bit but this year grass is 'house high' round here.

Well no i didn't think it was laminitus or i'd have got the vet immediately, but certainly on the path? Would laminitus get better so quickly after being in for just one night? Should I get him back in from the field and leave him in for a while? I'm at work now so I'll have to get a friend to do it. Wouldn't there be some sign? Some heat?

To be honest moonbucket only you can make a decission on what to do. Id certainly be going back up tonight to check on him, either way.
