Hi all only just joined so hello,,,At the mommnet Im finding it really difficult with a lady at our yard as Im rather organised and buy most things b4 they run out always have what I need their etc but this lady keeps seeing what I have and wanting to go 50/50 on things. My husbands dad is a farmer and I buy all my hay and straw of him and this lady always wants me to help her out.I dont mind doing the odd bit but im starting to get fed up as I see stuff at the tack shop to buy but dont because I know I wont get sole use out of it.I cant afford to keep mine and her horses and just dont really know what to do?we all use the same tack room so its not like I have my own private space...are all yards like this lol???

Hiya, welcome to the forum!
I know someone who sounds just like what you are describing, luckily I don't share a yard with her now. I think the only thing you can do is tell this lady you do not want to go halfs on things, let her know how you feel because she won't get any hints you may try and drop! maybe consider getting a metal lockable storage locker?

Hello and welcome to the forum

What do the other liveries at the yard say about this woman? You may find they have all had the same problem with her and if you get your heads together, you may come up with a solution. There is probably a person like this woman at each yard - always sponging off other people, which is why most modern yards have individual lockable tack rooms. Can you not get a lockable tack box for all your bits and pieces?

To a certain extent I feel it is sadly the norm for people to borrow other peoples stuff in a shared tack room whether they have asked or not, although I definately don't think it is acceptable and if I were you I would be politely asking the person to stop using my stuff, alternatively buy a lock for your tack box or keep anything you don't want used in your car (I know this is a hassle but it does save you from other people using your stuff!).

Sorry i can't be much more help x

Maybe you could tell her your horse has something contagious!

Seriously tho I can see why you are frustrated and I think this is a common problem on Livery Yards. Seems like locking up your stuff is the only option although it is a shame some people haven't the manners to ask before and replace after and spoil it for everyone else.

What does she keep wanting to share.... is it just straw etc..... or is it other stuff too??

Just be open and say that you have budgeted for what you need for whatever length of time and you dont have the time to keep renewing the used up stuff.

Hopefully if you are open about it, then she will get the message and not ask.

Alternatively, hide or lock it all away!!!! Bit hard with hay or straw though

Just out of interest, if you say no, does she take it anyway??

Sorry but if you don't like something don't do it. Tell her to sod off!

I can't be doing with stress in something that is supposed to be a pleasure - get some confidence and put your foot down. You don't owe her anything, you don't have to share anything and why should it be you have to go 50-50??

Ask yourself this - what do you think she could do if you simply said 'no'?

Welcome to HHO
I would say no to going 50/50 with her and if she still uses your stuff get a lockable cabinet..I have had the same problem in the past

Good luck
