Am on a yard where I get on with the YO very well both socailly and with the horses but i'm not sure the yard has everything I want anymore. The school is 30x30 (I do dressage!) and was unusable for most of the winter due to the bad surface. The only hacking involves riding round a major roundabout and a dual carriageway and the grazing is poor. I have just found another yard down the road which has amazing grazing, a path direct to the common for hacking so no roadwork, a bigger stable for my boy and a 20x40 school with a sand surface. Do I leave the yard where I am and move?! I know that my horse will prefer it but I don't want to loose a friend in the process!! Any advice would be great!! I honestly don't know what to do!!

If it was me i'd move. I'm sure your YO/Friend will understand, explain it to her sensibly and don't make a big thing of it just tell her the facts and that you think it will be best for your horse and altho she may be a bit miffed a true friend shouldnt hold it against you.
Hope it works out!

i agree, you need to do what's best for your horse and your riding. YO should understand as its because of the difference in facilities

I understand your dilemma but you have your horse to enjoy. If you can enrich your enjoyment of him at another yard, then I'd have to move. The hacking at your current yard would really be the nail in the coffin that sealed the deal to move.....even more so than the school.

Good luck with breaking the news to your friend.

Horse comes first IMO. If other yard is better i would say move. You can always make new friends!

I've moved twice for better facilities and both times the people were fine about it. If they are a real friend and you explain it sensitively they should understand that you are doing it so that you can move your horse on.
