This is Zorro, a Friesian stallion competing at Inter I -- yesterday, at the Hagen international (really big German international show) he came 5th in the Inter I Kur with 71,3% in a really strong international field.

Love her smile in the first photo. And please note (second pic) how long his forelock is!!! (His mane is equally long, almost touches his knee when not plaited)

What would make me :D even more would be a a big pair of clippers though :p

Heresy! :P

They are incredible. I know that in the US they have Friesians competing at GP etc but here in Germany, I have never ever seen/heard of a Friesian at this level (and not just Inter I, but a really tough international show too).

He spent a few weeks at our yard, a few months ago. An incredible horse. I remember the very first time I saw them -- I got in the indoor and they were walking. I had no idea who she was and you don't quite expect to see a Friesian in our arena (typical top warmblood-only dressage yard). She asked me if she could just practise a test quickly and I said yes, of course. With my typical only-warmbloods-can-do-dressage snobbery, I was expecting a lower level test -- when she entered in collected canter (and what a collected canter) I thought -- Mmmh and then, when I recognised the PSG test, I just stared at them until they finished it - so perfect, expressive, and by-the-book as to be beyond description. I was *literally* speechless.

She is a hugely talented rider too - she'd deserve a stable full of top horses.

I've been a HUGE fan since :)

He is absolutely stunning :):):)- and I bet he looks even more stunning when his mane is flowing!!:):):)

I have a hairy cob with a long mane and forelock (forelock is past then end of her nose and mane is past her shoulders) and would like to know, if you could see FB, how she plaited her mane as there doesn't appear to be 'long plait' anywhere - is it maybe sewn into the plait along his neck?

I think its just a normal running plait, only done properly so its right against his crest rather than drooping. Takes forever to do properly until you get the knack- I find them easier than normal plaits now though!

He is so stunning! Wow!

See, I look at that and think he'd look great with a cart behind him .... well actually, more of a carriage that the Queen goes down the Ascot track in.

I think they are a Marmite horse, you either love them, or you don't.

Spectacular and very impressed that he is not shod!

Yep, normal running plait along the crest, can't imagine you'd be able to ride him with a loose mane!

Lovely to see a friesian doing something to such a high level. You should have really posted this on the Friesians - why post. Would keep some of the doubters quiet :)

Actually Friesiens aren't even carriage horses, they're farm horses! They became fashionable about 100years ago and were bred a little lighter (where the stupid leggy swan necked things come from) as an all round horse. Then they were trade/commericial horses rather than carriage horses! Recently they've become coaching horses when it became fashionable to have a matched team, before it was unlucky to have 4 matched horses. Goes to show really, just because a horse is a particular breed it doesn't limit them.

OP pics, he is stunning and deserving of the word. Nice to see him barefoot too, never really got why dressage horses need shoes, other than remidial.

Stunning. Don't think he looks even the slightest bit out of place in that ring.

Also agree about the shoeing thing. Maybe thats because the only top dressage rider I know doesn't have many of his horses hacking. They walk from yard to school & back again!

SO lovely to see a friesian competing at this level as they have such a poor reputation of just being capable of dragging a cart around all day which couldnt be further from the truth. He is a very smart looking horse, i'd love to see a video of him :D
