I'm currently between farriers - the one I have found to replace the one who went MIA can't come for another week or two.
This week my horse has suddenly lost what I think is a fair bit of frog on his right hind. The tissue was soft, but didn't smell thrushy and I have scraped back to firm. He's not sore on it, and doesn't appear lame. It's very wet here, though the mud is only bad near the gate.
I'm treating with hot salt water and red horse sole cleanse, and packing with field paste at night when he's in. I'm going to send photos to new farrier but would appreciate any thoughts on what might be causing it. The track to the field is stony - could it just be stone damage?
Apologies they aren't clearer - it's hard to do this one-handed!
