My 3.5 year old welsh A has what I would call 'normal' frogs on his front feet ie fleshy and proud of the sole but on his hinds they are smooth and level with the sole, apart from the difference in colour you'd be hard pressed to differentiate between sole and frog on one hoof in particular

Has anyone seen anything like that and would it indicate any problems?

The ones on the back are what they SHOULD look like. They should be hard and tough and in constant use against the ground.

The ones at the front a) probably have thrush and b) the walls and heels are too long so the frog has grown to touch the ground.

Having the heels slowly lowered and treating for thrush will have them looking like the backs.

Any chance of some pictures, I could have got it completely wrong but though I know the frog should be in contact with the ground I thought the sole should be concaved.

Thank you both, I will try to get some pics today.

The frogs on the front look like they have on every equine I have had, they stand proud of the sole they aren't soft and squishy or anything I just meant they aren't as hard as the sole

The ones on the back are shaped with the sole, the whole bottom of the hoof is concave with the frog being almost on the same level as the sole as it curves. The frog doesn't stick out at all

The pony is sound, no problems there but it looks strange and I'm not sure if it's just yhe
