A few will remember my grey mare broncing, she's had a lameness work up and nothing showed up that would cause the bucking.

She's now ridden without a hint of bucking, touch wood. However I moved yards and there is no small routes to hack her (smallest will take over an hour). So thinking the best thing is to hack her to the X roads and back would be OK. Wrong. Today I thought Id go for a lovely little Christmas hack, but the mare had other ideas. I couldn't get out of the yard. Shed plant or reverse. I tried spinning, waiting, kicking &shouting, getting off and leading then getting back on. Nothing worked.

I spent almost 2 hours trying to get her going but the only time I could is when I was heading home in an uncontrollable trot.

Ahhh I know this is my fault as well. Having had a nappy horse before I don't want another. Previous horse only planted himself and you'd just have to wiggle him to move.

What should I try?

Its probably not useful but I have moved my horse to two different yards, both times she has been a saint on the ground, but as soon as I rode he she would plant her feet and Bronc/ nap as soon as my legs touched her, or she would shoot off at 10000 mph. Both hacking and schooling, did all of the checks ect and nothing showed, but after 3/4 weeks fine. Lovely sweet horse back and never looked back since.

I have just put hers down to insecurity, but perserverance was the key with her.. Maybe try long lining or leading her hacking if the roads are quiet? Or going with an older horse? Just to make her aware that he behaviour isn't on.

When you are riding on your own again keep everything short and sweet and just extend riding time as she associates it with fun :)

Thankyou Klix :-)

Im currently on a yard by myself so she has to go alone. I got off her today as a last resort and even I couldn't lead her when normally she's a saint.

I dk think she's trying it on so want to nip it in the bud soon. Shall try long reining tomorrow :-)

Mm, or you could try riding her in her 'safe' place, even if that is a walk around her field and then venture out as she gets more confident with her surroundings?

How many other horses is she kept with? Getting mine to and from field was a major drama when kept with just one other horse. It was quite extreme but no bother now on a big yard. Could be just be insecurity.
