Sorry for the delay, folks, but I appear to have Sleeping Sickness. Maybe it's the time of year but my duvet and I are now best friends and if I'd been given the option to stay in bed on Saturday morning, I most definitely would have. I'd done the early shift (OH and HH off hunting) and had "booked" help from H the Supergroom again as I'm still a bit manky (lovin' the 80s vocab :D), physically and mentally.:(

I whizzed (-ish, as my current walking speed is 2 mph:o ) round the course looking out for Jupiter-eating monster lairs and also the water, after Cal's Purston problem. There was enough to do I guess, including a corner early on, trakehner followed by coffin with new in and out fences, steps up then a turn to a skinny brush, and the final fence was a bit of horrible turn to a pagoda, but nothing that two 5yo's with 5 BE100 runs under their belts shouldn't be able to cope with...if only it was that predictable, eh?

Cal was on first and, with his new-found disregard for authority figures - me  - did a decidedly average test which involved lots of shoving him off my inside leg to make him less plank-like and under-the-breath whoa-ing when the canter got too forward. It wasn't dressage, it was waggon-ing.:o The thought of getting on Jupiter depressed me as Cal always tries harder than Jup but would you believe it, Jup was actually pretty good. Ok, going sideways past the judge's truck wasn't good but some of the trot and canter work was ok and we got a couple of 8s, so I was more than happy with a 33. :) I thought Cal's would be 40ish but he somehow - cute face? big ears? - got a 36.5, so not too appalling.

I didn't get time to walk the showjumping but it was the usual colourful and well-decorated course with a couple of fences rammed up near the judges box - potential for Jupiter there - and the ones I watched before it was my go seemed to be making a hash of it, including both stopping at fence 7 - not good for my nerves. Cal had an osteo visit earlier in the week and felt so much better, and we did a round I was proud of (and I never say that:o), really fluent with just one moment (see photos) when he over-jumped an oxer and shot off to the upright, hence both of us having a "sideways ears" moment. Shame the photos don't reflect how good it felt but I'm working on the premise that he and I were both soooo relaxed that my position/his technique reflect that. ;)

Quick change and onto the rocket that is Jupiter. I just knew he'd be spooky and sharp so our round felt like a jump-off but then it would after Cal's laid-back Larry one, wouldn't it? I can't quite work Jup out, but it appears that he needs some pressure to get his mind on the job and off gooning about, but how do you do that whilst keeping yourself chilled and relaxed? Whatever, my sense of self-preservation obviously does wonders for my position and we left all the fences up, so a very smiley Baydale after both her Cheeky Boys jumped clear.:D

Thankfully I had Cal to xc first and I swear he remembered getting a smack for his stop at Purston as he set off like a bullet out of a gun. He really covers the ground but some of the corners took a bit of organisation. He was fab over the corner, straight as a die and scopey, did a bit of a  at the water once he'd jumped the barrels but then was straight in and out, fab over the step down to oval pimple-y thing, copybook through the coffin....I'm running out of superlatives but I was very happy with him and he felt really confident. :D Onto the Other One, and I'd carbed up on muesli bars and energy drinks (there was dearth of cake as Ma Baydale hasn't been to stay for a while :() in readiness. I was being hassled by the starter ;) - Thistle, and she knows I'm joking - as there were only two of us left to go. Off we set, first monster being the fence judge's car at 2 , but a few threatening growls and we were off, pinging and getting more consecutively straight strides than ever before. :) He was fab at the corner, water, step to pimple, got a growl at the trakehner for good measure and then did the strangest skewy jump over the coffin ditch, and that was despite my bouncy bouncy coffin canter. He hurled his bulk up the steps and over the skinny and bounded home, saving the best spook for the last fence, the pagoda, where the spare xc fences that provided a perfect turning point and line to it suddenly became horrific structures sheltering monsters....yeah yeah, Jup, it all wears a bit thin after a while.

So, two double clears on much better ponies than last time out - or more likely the same ponies that were better ridden this time :o . I'd have been happy with the DCs, so imagine how pleased I was to find out that Cal was 5th and Jup was 2nd! :D Both got time xc but there were only two within the time in Cal's section, and only 5 clears sj, and no-one within the time in Jup's, and only 6 clears sj, so nothing major to worry about me being a slowcoach. :p

It was great to see Thistle and Holly-Jane, even if the former only likes me for Ma Baydale's cakes.;) I'd offer you some but they've all gone, so there's shortbread and grapes and an un-opened box of M&S chocolates for those that have made it this far. Photos are on www.horsepower-photography.com, Jup was 277 in Section F and Cal 218 in Section E, can't link to them as it doesn't work, but there are a couple of funnies on Jup including one of me smiling on him xc - unheard of! :D

Nice one, 2 DCs is super. I'd like to believe that they decided to look after you a bit, but then I got a reality check and decided that kick-arse kermit was definitely the solution.
how to put pressure on Jup while keeping yourself calm & relaxed - umm, bash him a lot in warm up to get it out of your system and make him realise you're SERIOUS, then go back to Zen-like calmness?

Look after me?! The little beggars have got less careful with their baggage as the season has gone on. Jup just can't help himself, shame the sheepskin blinkers have been outlawed.;)

What a fab result! 2 placings!! :D

I think Jups is definately trying to tell you its all been a bit easy and he's a future Badminton star "so whats the point with all this little easy stuff - might as well make it more interesting finding invisible monsters", and having decided that's not getting him anywhere, he's behaved just to prove he can do it! :D

hmmn about Cal's lack of respect for authority figures, naughty pony, but at least his showjumping was good and he's getting mor confident xc, maybe he's heard from Bob about the Loch Ness Monster having moved home?!

You did an fantabulous job, how you do it I'm not quite so sure ;) Fab piccies, LOVE Cal, but you knew that ;) he looks very round now :D Obviously enjoying the Baydale diet ;) Jupiter actually looks like he is concentrating :o and trying quite hard :p You all look fab though, and very deserving of the placings!!

I think you are making this all up, Jupiter looks positively angelic (if a little rotund!).
*wanders off wondering about push button horses*

:p

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story? ;) You're probably right, if only I could ride I'd probably do an awful lot better with them. *wanders off looking for miracle-worker trainer*

This is becoming a nasty habit of yours, getting placed! I can cure you of this if you fancy a stay at GHE Towers and I will only charge a nominal fee for my services! ;) Well done you I think you should get some sort of special horse wagoning award for the amount of bulk (theirs not yours!) you have been channeling into a placing.

Going to look at the pics now to see their cheeky little mugs :)

Hey, I didn't hassle you much, just the one that was before you told me she wanted to go slowly and I guessed you didn't want 'overtaking' to Jup's skills. We still finished the whole of the XC 20 mins early so I haven't lost my touch.

I have a theory that less time in the warm up is less time to get worried (unless of course there is a problem when I become very understanding), just ask some of the 'difficult starters' we had there! Even had one who half passed in canter reinback most of the warmup, right down past the jumps! I managed to clear the bit by me and it shot forward into the start box!

See you didn't mention eating my chocs, thank god I kept a firm hold on my wine eh!

Great result for them both and very lovely 'Lexus' rosettes too!

Well done the "cheeky boys" & girl! Really great results for them both....!

had a "doh" moment when i first read the post thinking ....which horse is Kermitt...........

"sw piles herself back into the pile of work on her desk......la la la la...."

Way to go girl, way to go :) I seem to remember (back in the days when you were trying to force a certain large square peg into a round hole) you were contemplating mugging a small child for a rosette when all it needed was for you to feel manky. Mind you - rather an extreme method of doing so if you ask me.

Course, the real reason may have been Thistle's expert starting box skills ;)

Hugh well done of course, hats off to you, us mere mortals (well me at least) can just about manage to get round, never mind dc AND a place! and thats in full fitness

Hmm re your last post (a little game) maybe could find a little space for Cal, he's gorgeous and would think he's looking in a mirror if i stable him next to my old lad Sting. keeping warm in the frozen north would loose a couple of pounds:) :)

Well done

Well done they both looked fab x-c! You cant miss you in your bight green!! and I did have the best view of the x-c course in control!!

Thanks lui, were you the smiley one - like you'd say "no, I was the grumpy one":p? Your starter thought it was funny when Thistle said they all called me Kermit. :D

Fab report as always and heeeeeuge well done to you and your cheeky boys, what great results! :D The photos even show you giving Jup a pat... your hard-girl image has just been busted! ;) They both look super happy in the photos. :)

Damn, it's a fair cop, I did smile and pat and say nice things, to both of them. I guess therefore that you don't believe I'd given them a week's worth of tough love instead of my normal laissez faire they're-only-five training method, do you?

Oh, don't say that Chloe:(, you had a bad day and as Meat Loaf would say, (yes, I know that ages me:o) ) two out of three ain't bad. Should there be a Horse Trucker of the Year award, as Jup and Cal are most definitely HGVs! ;)

If only it were that easy to get into Jup's head! He's just a monkey, and probably always will be. Cal was very confident xc but once we've got water in our river again he can go in there every day, just to be sure. Funny how he doesn't care about ditches though - horses are odd, aren't they?

I know you didn't, and I'm with you on the "less time to worry" warm-up routine. You kept offering me the chocs:p, and I think you' were just trying to curry favour with me due to the impending arrival of more of Ma Baydale's cakes. ;)

I haven't got any green horses, SW! Are you having a trying day? ;)

Well done

Thanks digger2, Cal is very appealing isn't he, but my, doesn't he look porky in one of the non-jumping xc photos? It must be the camera angle...

The starter is sooo funny he does all the unaffliated as comentator and some of the comments are so funny, I can barely start the horses!!! lol!!!

I was in the tower over the water, and was usually smiling whilst getting bombarded with numbers my brain was fried by the end of the day!!

We were so glad to finish early sat, but sunday and the intros went on forever!!! It was wierd barely anyone made the PN time but in the intro people were getting masses of time faults for going to fast!

Should there be a Horse Trucker of the Year award, as Jup and Cal are most definitely HGVs! ;)

I'm sure I can arrange for some sort of apt bumper sticker for your lorry as part of your trucker award! ;)

Would you like....

'Baydale - Big boys a speciality!'

'Honk if you ride a big'un'

or....

'17.1hh and full of fun!'

Just let me know and I'll get them printed (in tasteful green of course!) :)

Ive purchased 2! (sado!) I got a nice close up of us both and a SJ one, ive never had a showjump one where he is picking his legs up and im central! So it had to be bought!!
You should definitely get a X one of each as they did so well, I love Jup's trekehner one :)

Probably a good plan, Bob's weird, loves water and jumps in and out happily, jumps ditches fine but HATES the Trakhena's still :( I'll have him 'fixed' by next season though! :D She says while on her knees offering a prayer to the gods............LOL!

and yup :D Jup is def a cheeky Monkey! But you know you love him that way...:)

:D :D :D You are funny, Chloe (*whispers* barking mad, but very, very entertaining...);). I think I would attract the wrong kind of attention with the first two , or any of them actually.
