Ok bit of a long story. Horse came in from the field hopping lame one weekend. She hadn't been ridden for around 3/4 weeks out of walk as I had just recovered from a bad fall and wasn't allowed to ride.
3 weeks ago Vet called out thought it was an abscess although bottom of fetlock was a bit spongy feeling where here tendons were but there was no heat. Hoof tested and definite sensitivity to foot.
Farrier came out we found an abscess and poulticed, due to location of abscess hoof was filled and began began exercising (just walk and trot for 30 minutes) horse was sound. 48 hours later horse is slightly lame on the turn in trot.
Filling removed, hot tubbed and poulticed. No more pus coming out but horse has improved and is totally sound in walk and trot on a straightline. she has a choppy trot anyway and I am not sure I am looking for something that isn't there when im lungeing but she seems short when trotting with the abcess foot on the inside wouldn't even register as a 1 on the scale of lameness. The hoof wall had to be cut away to drain the abscess to start with. The hole has been kept clean and bandaged to stop anything getting in it. fetlock is slightly puffy but not much and he legs to fill from standing in anyway. My horse has been box walking so we have turned her out in the arena for a couple of hours everyday and shes happy enough to have a canter and a buck and a roll in the arena. Could she just be slightly iffy because of the chunck that's been cut out the hoof wall. Farrier will be back next week to have a look but just wondering if anyone has come across this.
