Looking to buy a horse. Seen one today and at the rear of the canon it has been shaved on both front legs where the boots go. Any one tell me please why this would be ?

It certainly sounds like the tendons have been scanned fairly recently, did the sellers not tell you when you asked them? probably best avoided if no reasonable explanation given.

I didn't ask as they weren't there. He is 6 I am not very experienced. What would you call a reasonable explanation please? Thanks for prior reply.

I'd guess it had been scanned for tendon injury but unusual for both. Only other I can think is if it is a bit hairy legged to remove the feathers but that would be all legs. Might be prone to bacterial skin infections so they keep hair short.

If he had knocked himself and the scan had been done to rule out a tendon or ligament injury so they could go ahead with selling, you really need to ask if you are considering buying and also hear the result from the vet concerned not just from the owners.
If it was not scanned you still need more info so you can make an educated decision before getting it vetted, your own vet will be able to advise and look at the scan results or any other veterinary history there may be.

Yes, when mine did her check ligament both were scanned so the vet could see what was normal for my horse (good leg) vs the injured one.

When you say shaved do you mean shaved right to the skin or clipped short. My old boss used to clip along the tendons of her eventers to 'tidy them up'. As a groom it drove me mad as it was so blatantly clipped.
