Hi lovely HHO! I am trying to find something similar to this product (which is unavailable): https://www.decathlon.ie/p/2470-197888-horse-riding-hacking-saddle-bags-sentier-brown.html

Does anybody have any ideas of where I could find something similar please? I've found smaller front bags but not bottle shaped like that. I would like to buy a few sets for someone who had these before but lost them in a fire but really rated them, ideally an affordable and hardwearing option with that in mind.

Thank you!

Ha! I've occasionally been checking the decathlon website for over a year now to see if these might come back in stock.

Saw someone out riding with them and that rider really rated them, and they looked like just the kind of thing I would like.

ETA they are not even listed on the UK website anymore, just looked.

@teacups - how funny! I wonder why they stopped making them when they were clearly a hit, but I guess there could be so many answers to that question.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies. They are actually for someone I work with for trail riding - he isn't keen on rear saddlebags but loved these front ones for his horses in particular. I think he will just have to widen his horizons and give something new a go!

I've got the stowaway bottle holder which is fine except I have to tape up the strap so the clasp doesn't sit as a big lump under my leg. I'm not sure if they're still manufactured but they do the job and they would still be around second hand.

Either of these any good? I've had the shires ones for years and they were great. Although they possibly look a bit bigger than what you've shared.

Or maybe these could work?

I've used those things, provided by the organiser, on full-day or multi-day rides and they're good.

On other rides I've used my own Maxpedition insulated pouches with one litre Nalgene bottles.

The front pocket is big enough to hold my phone.

I’ve got a stowaway pommel bag set which works ok apart from needing a breastplate or similar to stop it bouncing about at the front. Unsure how easy they are to get hold of these days though

Thanks @MuddyMonster! I think that might be a good equivalent too. Kramer seem to have a few options (someone linked another one further up to) which may work. 🙏

I think the big thing about the decathlon one was the useful size for holding a bottle on one side (and the bottle holder part was insulated apparently and would keep drinks cool) and bits and bats eg mobile, keys, hoofpick, snack, on the other, and not being too bulky. Some of those Kramer ones don’t look ‘tall’ enough.

There are some really nice alternatives suggested. None will replace your friend’s decathlon though I suspect, OP : (
Keith Beef, I quite like the look of that one. Shame it’s in the US.

Would this be any good?

I have the Decathlon pommel ones and really rate them - the Kramer ones are the only thing I've seen that are similar. I've just bought the bigger (rear) equivalent bags from Kramer and they're really nice quality, so I'd say the pommel bags would also be worth a ago.

Thanks for that :) So nice to see you posting here again too!

Oh thanks - there was one particular thread a while back that I though just encapsulated everything that's wrong with forums and social media, and I decided I was so sick of it I was going to take a break. But a friend sent me this thread by email and I can never resist some good saddlebag chat.

Ach, that's a shame but also understandable. There is a current thread called 'can I convince someone to buy this horse' that (for me) shows one of the positive sides of forums and social media : )

I've ordered some of the Kramer ones for now. The friend is over in Romania and I'm going there on Thursday... hope they make it in time but am pushing my luck! We'll be testing them out so I'll let you know how we get on with them - I got a mix of the 'Pommel Bags' and the 'Appiano' ones too.

Thanks again for the thoughts and tips!
