So my guy is having an operation next Thursday and will be having a considerable amount of time off. He was due a visit from the farrier so I decided to have his front off today he has been bare behind since April!

He came out of his stable hobbling. I noticed he is pretty much on his soles. Once on a roll walking in a straight line he seems better but uneven ground and stones VERY sore. I know this is to he expected. But as he is due on hospital next week and is staying for 10 days is it realistic to think I can get him a bit more comfortable by then?

If so what can I do to help him along. He has been turned back out and was fine on the grass! Thanks in advance!

I've been hibi scrubbing mines feet everyday for the last week and liberally applying Kevin bacon or cornucrescine daily to help growth etc.mine seems to be less hobby after a week :)

He was only shod a couple of weeks ago so has been trimmed obviously for that o I'm hoping he'll carry on improving from here :)

Get boots! His feet will never improve if he's sore. Correct, stronger growth comes from correct movement and use. He can't do that if he's sore.

A boot like cavallo will be your best friend. Dead easy to put on and off. Takes 30sec per boot. Then you can boot him in way in and out to field etc.

Also review his diet. Starchy sugar foods (most mixes) and 'good grass' give them poor quality sensitive feet.

Hi I have just bought him hind boots so may try them on his front for in hand stuff at least. I know they prob wont for properly but for walking around he should be okay if they fit reasonably well. Old posts show what I feed for condition he isn't a good doer and he's out 24/7 buy grass is dying down now. X

Be careful with grass, septmeber grass can be really high in sugars, especially after rain and with the sunshine. This will increase his footyness. Turnout is good though so maybe a muzzle if he is struggling, but if he is comfy on grass and thats where he is spending most of his time you will be fine. My horse was the same for first couple weeks. Very sore over stony unlevel ground. He wore hoofboots for maybe a week which gave me peace of mind when I left him out at night. Put the boots on his fronts for a few days if you like and see how he goes. Its not only soreness but if you can imagine he is feeling things he has never felt before, so its as much sensitivity as soreness. They have to get used to the sensations and stones of course will hurt a bit. Good luck it sounds as if you are doing all you can. He will be fine.

Yeahs it just he is so sore and going to horsepital next Wednesday - so bit worried about that. He will be fine after time just operation is so soon poor boy.
