Think I may have had a blonde moment....

Henry was frontlined on Wednesday night and went to the groomers today for his short back and sides. Have I accidentally had all the flea-killing chemical goodness washed off...? And if so is it safe to give him another dose?

It will have lost some effect but I would never take the risk with my dogs, by re-doing it to early. Allergic reactions towards Frontline and other anti-tick treatments are not unknown and as with all allergic reactions, if severe enough they can die. Also don't forget that if Henry should become allergic, you then will never again be able to use that sort of anti-tick treatment.

I would wait the minimum amount of time recommended on the package and maybe if the tick problem was really bad, do it a few days earlier. This is an insect pesticide that you put directly on your dogs skin and Frontline goes down in the skin, it should be treated with much respect. I've heard that most anti-tick treatments are based on the same pesticides that are used at places growing f.ex. roses in third world countries, that is sold to the rest of the world. The pesticide is responsible for some of the workers dying in cancer, around the age of 40 years old. Now dogs doesn't live to 40 years old but it still shows that it isn't harmless.

Personally I have a flea comb that I use after long walks, though my dogs are anti-tick treated, they do still get ticks that jumps on and are crawling around in the fur before they hopefully realise they can't find any place that they want to bite. The comb catches most of them.

Good luck.

i used frontline when my jack was a puppy, she came out in what looked like blisters (like burns) where the vet put it on. i was annoyed becuase they didn't do a patch test. rescently i was worried about worming against lungworm so vet suggested advocate, i said i was worried about it as her last reaction to frontline, but they said try it anyway- small patch test. so i put one drop from a small tube and the result shocked the vet- it was like a very deep ulcer. she does have v. sesitive skin but do be careful when using spot on treatments.
i now use panacur for worms and a herb mixture from CSJ dog foods for fleas. jelly has never had fleas or ticks despite being a farm dog
