Hello all,
I have treated both my borders with Frontline Spot On on Sunday, as we always do. We very rarely have problems with ticks with the dogs, we get a few on the horses but rarely any on the dogs. I always assumed this was because of the frontline.
However we have been having more on the dogs, I've pulled 6 off the same dog in the past week. I removed two from him today that seemed to be making a real hash of trying to bite into him and both had made him bleed. One was dead when I got it and I am wondering how the frontline actually kills the ticks??
Am I meant to be taking them off or leaving them on to die due to the frontline?? Confused!
PS I use a tick removal tool and always get the whole tick.

Hi,
I take them off with the tick thing.....but once had one on a pony's nose...and dabbed the tick with the frontline...and it couldn't get off the pony fast enough.....so maybe try that too.
Good luck

frontline does not stop them biting the animal but will kill the tick within a few days, if you want something to repel the ticks you need to use advantix, which is also available from your vets.

Thanks guys. Think I will get some advantix, as it is not particularly easy to find the ticks on my boys now that they are getting their adult coats!
