Any ideas of how to deal with this. The girls went off to show this morning but the lorry wouldn't start because the diesel was frozen. I can see a winter without showing if there is nothing we can do about this.

Any ideas?

Very rare for modern diesel to freeze. My top tip is muck! Built skirts round the lorry with whatever is available and leave a nice big pile of muck under the tank and running towards the engine, just gives it a little advantage with the temperature.

Yes id imaging its frozen condensation within the tank/fuel lines.
Was the lorry nearly empty? You should try and keep it filled up to prevent water condensing within the taknk (although i know this is not always possible) Diesel is known to freeze in very low temperatures, trucks going on the continent to very cold countries actually add a small amount of petrol to their diesel tanks in order to lower the freezing point of the fuel.
Try filling the tank up and bleeding the system and change the fuel filters.
Its probably not going to be an easy job to get it started :(
Best of luck with it!

If it stopped after running for a few minutes ,the diesel could have been frozen,But if it wouldnt start at all ,it is probably worn injectors and just too darn cold.

Tank was completely full. It had been driven yesterday (as we store it somewhere else and have to drive it to our yards). It has just been serviced an MOTd and nothing was highlighted.

does the engine crank over when you try to start it?? Or is it completely dead. Ask if the glow plugs were changed on the service, some times it helps to let the plugs glow 2 or 3 times before turning her over.

x2 check your glow plug is working and make sure your battery is fully charged!
If the glow plug isnt working you could try this:
I have started an old tractor this morning by rooling up a sheet or two of newspaper and lighting it. While somone turned the key I held the flame up to the air intake of the engine (i had to remove a pipe comming from the air filter for access) and it sucks in the flame into the engine and helps with the starting!

Works every time but obviously you must be very careful not to set anything fire!
