I have no idea, it's either a coincidence that my horse figured it out herself or that the benefit of riding a friends horse who knows how to work in an outline gave me more confidence to implement it into my mare. I think before I was keeping the inside rein static and half halting with the outside as this was the only thing that seemed to flex my horses neck but then we'd get into a fight. But now I literally just sponge/play with both reins, but I lift my outside rein a little higher on bends etc which helps my horse maintain balance and the outline. She is still breaking from the contact on some corners etc, but this is just a balance issue which we will get through, BUT she's not snatching her head and the reins anymore which is fab! And I have just recently reintroduced her to a running martingale so this might be helping the situation too! I am also driving her more forward than before, lots more leg....which sounds bizzare as she's quite a flighty forward going mare lol x
