Frustrated with dealer...

I bet if you had turned up on the first day had a ride and then brought it without any questions they would have sold it to you.

Definitely think you're right - maybe I'm asking too many questions! They have had the horse for a few months to sell now and I am surprised that it hasn't gone already... perhaps they're just waiting for the 'right' buyer to turn up - ie somebody who won't ask any questions or want a passport! Am I right in thinking that the horse won't pass a vetting without a passport?

Found out yesterday that it doesn't have vaccs up to date... and perhaps this is why - because it doesn't have a passport! The vet that came to give the horse it's jabs would pull them up on the lack of passport surely.
 
Does sound as though they have you down as a dreamer.

Why can't your trainer intercede for you?

Please keep us up to date with the texts though. Not doing business after 4pm is a real doozy:D

The horse would have had a passport. It was probably used on the sale of another similar horse that they sold the day before, for cash and no vet.

Open your eyes Op and walk away.
 
Blimey, I would have told them where to stick it when they wouldn't talk to me at the comp!

As has been said, walk away. Seems like there is a problem with the horse or the passport and dealer probably wants a 'no questions asked' sale.

So...you completely trust your trainer and your trainer has bought horses from this dealer.

Maybe the dealer is ok.
 
I'd do as others have suggested and get a friend to call them asking very basic questions about the horse, no mention of vetting and see if they'll book a viewing for after 4pm for someone new.

I'd also be asking your trainer to intervene. Maybe the horse has a previous injury and so would fail the vetting for anyone wanting to do BE on it? Just a thought. Does seem really odd though and would drive me nuts too if I thought the horse was the one!

Walk away, I had exactly this with a 'reputable' dealer who many on here advocate, never did get to the bottom of her odd behaviour but both viewings passport never materialised but in between first and second viewing horse had suddenly dropped age by a year - by teeth I would guess really 2 years, gained some breeding and gone up in price on the website - very worrying and I walked and never regretted it. Plenty of horses out there with no ifs buts or dodgy pasts!!
 
Thanks for your comments guys, have spoken with my trainer he is as confused as me but says let's walk away as he reckons they don't have the passport for it, or they've lied to us about it and we would find out with some basic background checks on it's name. So, we're letting it go. Never mind! Plenty more out there and all that! :)

Thanks to everybody for their thoughts and ideas, and just FYI I'm sure my trainer would have told me the truth, he's just as bemused as me :)
 
The general attitude towards the horse is so off, I wouldn't touch it even if they magic the passport out of thin air and handed it over in a gold frame. Hope you find a nice horse elsewhere though :)
 
Dealer is being evasive- theres defo something wrong with the passport/dealhorse.
I m old and cynical- you O P s think dealers wouldnt sell just because they think the horse and rider wouldnt match - I dont think so.
They ll sell anyhting to anybody- especially at the moment when nothing is selling. They are probably most put out that you are being cautious .
And as for horses not travelling with passports - they do! When we bought our lad from Ireland , he and others- 12 of them- came in a lorry - there were 12 passports, none equating to a particular horse! Recently had a friend with horse bought from dealer - passport tampered with, and many lies and untruths given .
Walk away from these dealers, something defo not right.

I don't agree that all dealers will sell anything to anyone I've been very lucky and met some fab dealers who care more about reputation than making a sale. When I moved out of ponies I bought my horse from a dealer she was a 4 year old TB not great for a 14 year old coming off ponies, but dealer made me go to ride her on 4 occasions she also wanted to speak to my instructor before she would accept a deposit. Only once she heard that I had always had naughty ponies and I always have 3 lessons a week without fail and the dealer knew my instructor. Dealer told my mum that she reluctantly would sell only cause my instructor felt it could work.
