don't know if anyone will remember but i was having problems with getting my mare to canter now this is sorted another problem has got worse. when we go in the school or hack on our own she just plants herself wont move forward or backwards and she will stand for however long she wants till you get off. in the school she will no longer move even when she has a lunge whip behind her none of us can really think of anything else to try back saddle and teeth all fine she is only four so i know shes probably trying it on but don't know how to move past it
sorry its long brew and cookies for getting to the end

my old nf did this with me, and i found the best thing i coudl do was sit it out, most of it was out hacking, soon she learnt that she had to go forward as she wasnt going back, i once sat there for 30 mins waiting for her to move forwards. Just could cause problems if your on the road, where as she used to do this in a woods so didnt have any traffic to get in the way of.

Try turning her in a very small/tight circle & then forward. if she stops again then tight circle again. Alternate direction of circles. Make sure you use different tones of voice to encourage forward movement & instant praise when she gives required response - even if it is only one step to begin with.
