The now 26yo who has ems, has been living out 24/7 with unsoaked hay since September/October. He has also had ulcers before which I did treat with gastroguard, but didn't scope so wasn't completely sure they where gone ( massive improvement) though still could be grumpy, so living out with adlib hay did him the world of good and was extremely happy. But then a couple days ago he started getting a strong pulse, foot sore on gravel, brought him in to an starvation patch for the night with adlib (11 hrs) soaked hay. Pulse Had gone by the morning, it is most definitely the hay as its quite alot nicer than normal, so brought him in the next night aswell but as he isn't eating as much because he is fussy, so therefore started to get a bit grumpy when being touched, which is rather frustrating because he never ran out of hay! So then soaked it for a hour still looked at me to say what is this? Going to try and soak for 30 mins tonight and see if that helps. Not footsore anymore. Any ideas?

My laminitic and skinny Connie has in the past shown grumpy signs and I’ve always considered ulcers so like many people manage him as though he has them. I found the best way of settling him down is to give him RonFields Ulcx30EX. It’s a 10 day course, completely natural and also perfectly safe for laminitics and EMS ponies. Ron now does a supplement for EMS ponies which I haven’t tried on DP but I have used the Remount which flushes the liver of toxins and touch wood he has never had laminitis. If you can swap the hay to Blue bag Horsehage in a fine hole net if needed it is fine for laminitics and won’t need soaking while he’s in his turnout pen.

I wouldn’t completely blame the hay 100%, the grass is growing and with the frosts over the last two days the sugar content will be high so keeping him off it is probably a good idea until everything settles down.

Great thank you, extremely helpful. It's not a good mix together ulcers and laminitis! Thanks again

I know, I’m watching my two like a hawk for hot feet, pulses, swollen sheath, cresty neck. The list seems endless. I can’t wait to get them back out on their summer track with no grass and constant movement.
