Hello All.
I broke my radial head joint in my elbow in January - miss judged a show jump and fell awkward. I've been back riding for a couple of months but I can't believe how much my stupid arm is affecting me. I have a new horse on the yard and on the right rein i can't get him straight - we go all over the place. He's a bit on the green side but a total sweetheart - I just can't get the contact in my left arm. Other people get him straight and actually on the track. I'm back mucking out etc etc and can't understand why the stupid thing is so weak when I'm getting on with daily duties as before and have been for some time! I know I'm being impatient but has anyone else had this - how long will it be before i stop looking like a total dobbin.

Thanks

Well I broke my humerus at the end of last Feb and had problems with my elbow as whilst cast it really seized up.

I wasn't riding again until mid may/beg june, and didnt jump til July as if I needed to take a pull my arm just wasn't strong enough to do it. I did a fair bit of work on the cross trainer to get my joint moving again and strengthen the muscles up.

I would try to take it easy, don't aggravate the arm as you don't want to causing any more injuries by using the muscles too quickly x

i broke my wrist 4 years ago, and i struggled to hold the reins for probaly a year, maybe more.

even now if i'm schooling for any length of time or go for really long hack i can feel it in my wrist. I guess it is something that i had to adjust to. but it doesn't stop from enjoying horses.

give it time and maybe try some physio to strengthen you arm.

Thanks for your tips guys. I adore riding and like everyone who rides and has ever broken anything and kept going I expect everything fixed staright away! Daft I know. I'm sure we'll get there eventually - it's just Ernie is probably the most honest and potentially talented horse I've ever owned, I just want to get cracking. It's the first time I've ever made a post and it'd been really nice to get your comments.
