I have owned my ISH for 3 yrs now and he is slowly driving me up the wall, as he will not go forwards until he has been to the toilet (either way!). He will get to the stage that when he trots he feels like his legs are crossed and almost feels lame, but will only go when absolutely bursting - competing and hunting are affected too, as he can be very sluggish until he has 'been'.
I bring him in to the stable before riding in the hope he will relieve himself, always travel with shavings down, and try to encourage him to go when we arrive the other end, but sometimes to no avail. I feed pink powders as a digestive aid but doesn't seem to make any difference.
Does anyone else have this problem with their horse, and offer any suggestions?! It may sound a minor issue, but is very frustrating as I hate having to nag him to go forwards, especially when he is a 'pocket rocket' once relieved!
Thanks for listening.

Isn't dandelion meant to make them wee more? I dont know if it would help with your problem...it could meant that he needed to stop more often, but it might be worth a try!

I'm sure a few people on here have talked about getting their horses to wee on command ... can't remember who, but if you could teach him that it might help.

Mine can be the same, he flatly refuses to wee if he's being ridden, will only go to the toilet in field or stable - so if he needs to go when you're riding him he just gets progressively grumpier and worse behaved until you give in and take him back to his box for a pee!
