full clip-how long does it take you?

about 1hr30 including head and legs, maybe longer if i'm being really picky but one of my horses has to be sedated so has a maximum time limit of an hour and a half

forgot to say can do a full clip bar head and legs in 30 mins tops on sis cob as he has to be sedated so am on the clock! No tram lines and edges all nice and neat too :D

depends on the beast being clipped. Berry (15hh cob) about 1.5hours, but that included arguements and strops from him and me having to go carefully over his irritable scabby bits (which was the whole point of clipping him out entirely). Tops, 17.1hh ShirexTB about an hour, less if a re-clip.

Full clip is the easiest, as other than the leg lines, nice pointed tail, and saddle patch (if you leave it - personally I don't) then it should take no longer than an hour tops. Having said that depends on length of coat - and having to take time for clippers to cool - oil etc. I used to cool my clippers rapidly whilst running them in diesel (until told I could set light to them......) does anyone else still use this technique?

just to clarify, i mean everything off-legs, head, saddle patch, the lot.

its taking me 2 hours to do the whole job, and thats an immaculate job, no lines, tufts etc, but it feels like an age!!!!

rocky gets full clip with legs and half saddle left on. takes me about 2hrs, but thats because hes alergic to clipper oil so has to have a full on bath afterwards! grr.. clip takes me about 1hr 15 ish as im a perfectionist with the half saddle patch and leg lines, and missing bits is not acceptable! :p

Gosh interesting q, as I clipped my lad out on Saturday, and it took me aaaages!

Thinking about it, I think it took me 3 hours in total. IN MY DEFENCE...lol...he is BIG. 16hh Suffolk X and there is a lot of...surface area, shall we say! Also his coat is very, very thick, so I have to go over areas such as his bum and his legs a few times. No tram lines tho ;) also my clippers seem to get annoyingly hot very quickly, no matter how much oiling I do or how much I play with the tension. So that slows me down too. On the other hand, horse is an absolute angel who seems to adore being clipped. So apart from him snatching his legs away cos they're bony, not itchy, thank you very much mum, he is just a big malleable bear so I can't attribute any of my slowness to his being difficult, whatsoever! Oh and also I do do a FULL clip, i.e. every last bit comes off bar front of his face.

So OP have me and Nicole made you feel any better??? :D

Glad you said that as to me that is a full clip, legs left on is a hunter clip i thought. I think that's a reasonable time for a good full clip so don't feel too bad

Takes my about 1 and a half to do a hunter, never done a full yet, can take longer if he comes in mucky from field. He also has to be washed after to avoid allergic reation to clipper oil!

First one - best part of 2 hours leaving on legs, but had to twitch him for his ears and my wretched clippers were getting really hot so had to keep oiling them really frequently and turned off a couple of times - so delay was due to me constantly (and I mean constantly) having to check the heat of the blades. If anyone has any other suggestions on keeping them cool please pass on! otherwise think I need to be saving up for another pair..

half an hour per horse to do a full clip cos I hate clipping, yuck!!- and then 5 mins to plug clippers in, 5 mins to sweep up and 5 mins to clean their coat afterwards, so 1 hr 15 mins to clip 2 horses, which is the time I did on Sunday afternoon when I clipped them!

Luci that's my problem too, which clippers have you got? Mine are premiers. Have to say a friend loaned me her clippers once, not sure what they were but one of the popular brands. I loved them, did him in half the time. Half hoping for mine to pack up lol ;)

Takes me 2 hrs too, including the full aftercare, hot cloth, baby oil etc, and a tidy up of the mane and tail. I can't abide tramlines or untidy clips! If you are going to bother doing it, do it properly!!!

half an hour?! to take off head and legs too??????!!!!

i have a set of hauptners, which i NEVER use as they get burning hot in about 20mins, on a fine coated TB, with plenty of oiling, hate them and thus only use them for tidying heels etc in between clips.

my listers are FAB, probs 11/12 years old now and still going like a true work horse, never let me down and stay really cool.adore them. friend has new listers(last year) and the quality is still just as good, cant beat em IMHO.

No- I don't take off heads completely just do a bridle line, legs are left on with nice neat lines put , no tram lines or tufts or anything!!, I just don't hang around when I'm clipping as I hate it so much as am allergic to hair and horses!!!- Clippers, I use Listers they are fab I agree- before them a few years ago I too had Hauptners, they were HORRIBLE!!

usually about 30-40 minutes for full with legs on and about 50 minutes if I take legs off, thats with a good horse, has to be smart as I do it proffessionally. If the clippers get hot quickly I cool the blades in meths, works well and never had a problem with it.

If horse is tricky can take longer.:)

my clippers get bl**dy hot too :( they are heiniger progress'... used a friends listers when mine decided to play up last year and loved them.. if i was to buy another set would def go for listers!

My ponies takes me an hour and 15mins with leg on and half a head for the 1st clip. Once have the line next clips are about an hour.

When doing a new horse I allow 1 1/2 to 2hours for a full clip.
