Full Clipped Horse- How many rugs are you guys putting on?!

Mine is well wrapped up!! 220g under rug, a vest and 300g t/o with hood!! Having said that he doesnt normally have that many layers on, meant to snow my way tomorrow, was 1 degree at the stables when i left and howling a gale - SERIOUSLY freezing!!!!

mine is wearing his new double duvet i bought him today, and a LW stable rug on top, he was fully clipped for the 3rd time today!
hopefully the duvet will still be there in the morning, it is a cheap way to add extra warmth

ours both wear one thick turnout with a neck, which they live in monday to friday, and over the weekend they get a thick stable rug over night (when i'm there to change them before they go out again) instead of the turnouts.

neither are cold, and the rugs are decent horseware ones so they don't get wet through ever.

Surely its better to make sure your horse is nice and toasty warm all the time so thier clip doesn't grow back better than having it to go through getting clipped and being sedated again?

are the 30yr olds fully clipped?

Mine is fully clipped with 375g stable rug and thermatex underneath.

Personally I hate to see horses with a million layers of rugs on. They are so restricted when laying down / rolling and because each rug doesn't fit the same way it can put awful pressure points on withers etc . They also cannot regulate their temperature and often need a lot less coverage that people think - particularly during the milder months of winter.
Try wearing a 'straight jacket' for a few hours and see how it feels!

My horse is in a 360g HW T/O with full neck today and will be in 3 rugs tonight - BUT I must stress that he is just getting over a recent bout of colic and isn't on his usual feed yet, just some bran with his meds, so is feeling the cold even more than usual. Usually he'd just have his 300g on, but he was only warm enough in his 300g and 220g the other night when it was milder. His stable is very drafty though and he is a bit of a wimp so he's getting an extra rug on tonight.

My old horse was in a 220g stable and a 150g or thereabouts T/O in the depths of winter and that's it. I didn't believe in 'over-rugging' when I had her, as she definitely didn't need it, she was such a good dooer.
Though my boy lost weight last winter when I tried the same approach with him, he is just completely different and feels the cold a lot.

I believe in rugging to suit the individual horse. I would love to not rug my boy up so much, but if he needs the extra layers then he will get them.

Why do people get so judemental about rugging? Surely if the horse is warm enough & comfortable then the rugging is right - without checking the horse in question it's ridiculous to say it's over or under rugged because they're all individuals.

Today a friend of mine was walking round the yard in a long sleeved t-shirt & she said she was warm enough. I was just warm enough mucking out in a shirt, hoodie & coat - I felt cold just looking at her!

My wimpy show horse has 2 MW stables without neck 1 HW stables with neck and a snuggy hood!! She feels cold they make her nice and snuggly never sweaty thou:)
And
My connie has 1 MW stable n 1 HW outdoor together both without necks.Hes much tougher

Tb is in a m/w stable rug overnight but last night and tonight I've put his l/w on underneath. Cob is in a m/w turnout in stable at the moment. Once Cob has 2nd clip mid december he'll have his heavy weight stable rug on.
