I now a few people who just full clip just for looks because there horses actually don’t need full clip but they don’t like look trace clips or blanket clips they told me in a conversation with them . Do people actually do it for looks I thought it was for the benefit for the horse.

People have many reasons for clipping - To save time with grooming, as it looks aesthetically pleasing, out of habit, for horse comfort. Ultimately I don't care why people do or don't clip or why they chose the type.of clip they do. As long as horse is not too hot or cold and is fed, clean, and watered it has never crossed my mind to think about it.

There’s been so many threads on this topic ? I think it depends on the horses workload and often owners preference. As long as the horse is rugged and fed as appropriate for age, body condition and clip type I shouldn’t think what clip they have really matters.

I openly admit I full clipped (left legs and half head on) Archie because he was (well still is but now retired so naked, fat and filthy) such a mud monster, it was easier to take it all off and cover him from nose to tail than clip for the level of work and spend longer getting him clean than riding him. I had to full clip him to cover him up as much as I did or he got too warm. I also hated the moulting stage. BUT, he was always well rugged and plenty warm enough and had ad-lib forage to help him stay warm. I don't have a problem with taking more off than is strictly necessary as long as you make sure they're warm and well fed. He wintered really well for 15 years, rarely in more than 200g rugs - he'd go up to 300g once in a while if it was really cold for a prolonged spell.

I clip any of my own in work and looks definitely have to do with it. I love hunter clips, they were the clips we always had as kids so I just really like them. but if I'd something in that was living out all winter and in low work I'd do a bib. but all my own def get the hunter clip every year.

I full clip mine (or full clip bar legs and half way up his neck if he isn't high on dope!!!)

He is only in light work but he has Cushings so is more comfortable with it all gone.

I also hate doing lines and as he is dodgy to clip I can do a far quicker job just whipping the whole lot off. And yes he does look smarter, especially when he's been sedated so I haven't had to stop halfway up his neck!!!!

He is stabled at night so it isn't like he is freezing with no hair.

I mainly clip it all apart from half head and legs my horses are ridden 4 or 5 days a week, they sweat up easily so it's just easier if thet are clipped they mainly live out unless it's vile, I have decent rugs and they never feel cold or drop weight they get plenty of hay, although last week I wanted them both clipped but was worried about my blades so they both got a front end clip.

My little chestnut mare would usually be blanket clipped, until she started to hunt regularly), and it looked gorgeous. The others were usually clipped out, just because it was ‘easier’. With the fabulous rugs on offer I don’t think it matters if everything is clipped off for aesthetics only.

Another reason is i think a blanket clip is one of the hardest to be accurate with, straight lines and even on both sides especially when trying to get a sedated horse to stand evenly.

Last year i went for a hunter instead of a blanket clip as horse had just had a biopsy and it was the easiest way to even out the shaved patches. He didn't struggle with the cold, after all the extra bits I'd removed are what ends up under an exercise sheet or rug, so he's had a hunter clip this year.

Why are people in any way bothered about what clip others do ?
I can’t stand sweaty dirty horses I like my horses clean tidy and pleasant smelling .
I not bothered by what clips people do I think it’s was just a strange response most people would say something like there horse gets sweaty.

This is the second post you've made about why people full clip their horses, and whether their level of work justifies it - so you do seem a bit bothered by it!

As long as a horse is rugged accordingly, I don’t see the problem with clipping for whatever reason. My friends fully clip their oldies so they don’t have to deal with the spring hair shed. Oldies are rugged as required and are happy and well cared for.

the horse gets sweaty is a valid reason tho. if a horse is in work then you it will get sweaty and you have to wash them down and wait for them to dry off. its much easier and quicker to clip and avoid that. plus they risk getting a chill if they are damp and hairy.

Clearly the answer to your question 'Do people actually do it for looks ...' is in your OP where you say that you know a few people who full clip just for looks.

I either full clip or I don’t clip at all. And yes, I could maybe go for a blanket clip or something, but I won’t. It looks awful on a dressage horse. Any yes, a full clip does save me time on the grooming.
