I bought a full face turnout hood, and following the advice of many people didnt use the face part, just as I was about to hack into the face and cut it away (to make a nice neck rug) one of the ladies down the yard advised me to tuck it under, as it wouldnt come free but would save me murdering it...

I had reservations but when she did it and showed me, i thought OK she has been around horses for ages, and it looks ok so I'll give it a go over night....

Stupid cow...

This morning went down to see Murphy standing head down to the floor, eye parts over his eyes - ear parts NOt over his ears, looking so sad. I started to laugh until one of the ladies at the yard came over and told me he had been being beaten up by three of the othere horses - they were all round him booting him in the chest and belly (they must have not known what he was..I guess..) and biting him...

I took the hood right off and I have never seen my lovely boy look so sad and dejected. He looked heartbroken and downtrodden (sorry i know that sounds OTT but its true)

I feel so bad for him. Checked him over and he's ok but looks suicidal....do you think he'll be ok?

oh no the poor thing.

Did the woman not realise that horses do move and as soon as he went to graze or roll it would come untucked?!

Thank god no more serious damage was done.

Poor horse.

aww poor lad

I know... I should have realised it, well I did kind of but I should have gone with my gut instinct, but sometimes cause Im only just getting back into it - you kinda listen to what other people think too much...

I know, you would think this other woman who has so much experience would have known better though, espec as you were trying to do it the right way in the first place.

Poor horsey, lots of cuddles and treats I think, is he a bit tender and bruised then?

Poor baby... that happened to my mare when I put her out in a full fly sheet with a hood and mask! None of the horses recognised her and proceeded to chase her around until she had enough and stood up for herself!

I think he is, he's a sensitive horse underneath the huge 17.1hh frame and he is usually field boss, so I imagine he's feeling really lost at the moment. wish i could spend the day with him giving him love!

Aww bless him

Lots of hugs and treats and im sure he will be fine.

While we are on the topic....would you mind me asking what sort of price it is for a full face turnout?

Sorry to hear about that hope he is OK, it would have been nice of the ladies to let you know as the bullying was taking place and then even if they were nervous about dealing with it themselfs could have let you know then at least you could have done something about it. Maybe a polite word with them like in the future if there was anything untoward they could let you know. He maybe a little down now but they soon bounce back.

I paid 12 bucks including P+P its a shires typhoon.

Welshcob - yes i wish they had rung me(they have my number) and by that time THREE people has been and gone from the yard.... or done something - would have saved him a lot of pain I imagine...

They saw him getting bullied and left him???

What the hell is it with some people...arent we all supposed to be horse lovers?

I'd never dream of walking away if i saw any of the horses at our yard having a real go at each other! Some people amaze me

I took a pair of scissors to the hood I bought the boy - it now covers the ears but only comes to just below his forelock and is no where near his eyes. Ok his face still gets muddy but to have a clean neck and bridle path is a miracle!

Just shows, when it comes to your own horse you should trust your own judgement in most cases.

Thats awful! Stupid women, I'd be spitting. What if you got there and he had been seriuosly injured? Hope now he looks like himself again hes back in charge - poor boy.

so they saw the horse being bullied and beaten yet they just ignored it and left your poor baby in with the other horses?

golly i would not listen to a person who did that!

I agree, the person who told me to use the hood like that wasnt the same one as had seen the horse in distress, mind you three people were there and no-one helped. people onlycare bout themselves nowerdays...well some people!
