For future insurance and possibilities im juggling at the moment, i’m making a potential UK grass livery yard list.

Can anyone recommend a spacious acreage yard that does full grass livery 24/7/365 with shelter and hay supplemented when needed? Hopefully a place that has mixed herd grazing?

Anywhere UK, but prefer not north of Sheffield, and exclude west Wales and the cornwall leg.

Much appreciated! Cakes all round 😁🍰

None where I am - DIY grass yes, but not full and no mixed herds that I know of. (North Surrey/South London)

There is one in Liphook iirc that offers full grass for ridden horses as well as retired, but I can't remember the name of it and spaces seem to be rare. You might do better popping up a wanted ad on the different regional FB groups?

Would a youngstock or retirement livery yard fulfill your needs? A Google search returns a few results.

ETA: Sorry just realised you were looking for recommendations. I'm interested too as retirement livery is something I may be looking at in the future.

One very good one in NW Surrey, has usually a waiting list.
V happy horses and exceedingly well and knowledgeably managed by on site owner. TS had her late horse there for a few years.
Not far from A3, Guildford area.

Edit, it is a retirement livery, but very mixed ages there.

Retirement may work if the yard accepts them, as 1 of mine isnt officially retired, but used to long periods of being turned away at grass.

I’ve seen a few retirement full grass livery yards, and presumed they‘re for younger injured retired or oldies retired to live out their days there - im not sure if they’d accept an active younger 10+yr old old to be turned away at grass there for a good few months/year/18 months….however long it may be.

It’s to cover moving farms, and because theres so many unknowns, i am toying with the idea of putting my pair into livery while i sort out human home/move logistics/new job settling/finances/farm gear/house selling. It would be a massive move of so many unknown elements, also international, aswell as property sale hassles, i’d just want the horses to be settled somewhere else while i go through the inevitable mayhem!

I'm easily confused, but this might be the place where TS was /TFF posted about. Either way, despite being in a different country, I've heard and read good things about this place.

I know it’s a bit north of Sheffield but Sauchenhall livery near Glasgow. 24/7 full grass livery turnout in big fields in the summer and living in communal pens in winter, but with turnout in a very big field during the day. Yard owner very sane and was very tolerant of our BOGOF mishegoss.

I know they have revamped the grass livery side this summer, but didnt think it was full grass livery? Stand to be corrected tho 🙂
(They are mostly on clay there, but carefully managed it ought to be ok)
This is what they posted on Fb earlier? I have a friend on livery there who likes it but she’s on part so not 100% sure on the grass offering!

The yard I am on has grass livery in mixed herds that are out all year round. They feed hay when needed over the winter but there are no field shelters - the horses tend to use the natural shelter in the fields.

I think they are full at the moment but, depending on when you are thinking of moving, I can see if the yard owner would keep you in mind if a space does come up?

I am based in the midlands, about 10 minutes outside of Warwick and 5 minutes from Claverdon.

Thank you so much for the suggestions - HHO is fab! 🙂
To have a list of recommended yards is pure gold, compared to the world of open google.

I did consider track liveries, and still might, if they offer grass too, not just track, as my pair do so well on Dr Green Grass 🙂
A hybrid track/grazing yard would be fab - i kinda have a miniature version of that here for mine that works well.

The track livery my pony is at does full livery with grass and ad lib hay. The tracks are geared to poorer doers or good doers. The poorer doers are on grass with hay as well at the moment with a field shelter. The good doers were on a bare track with some strip grazing along one side and hay in Summer and are now on a restricted grassy track and hay and have lost some weight over the last few weeks. It is quite far south near Salisbury. So far I cannot fault the weight management or the herd composition. I have a happy and sound very good doer even though I can only give him light exercise.

Ah, didn't think you included tracks. Fairlawn in Banstead has a track with grass in summer, mixed herd and hay supplemented. I have a friend there who is very happy. https://fairlawnfarmliveryyard.co.uk/track-system/

Thanks for this. I’ve found some threads about track liveries so have some ideas from there. It’s nice to have recommendations though of those that offer grazing too 🙂

Have you looked at yards that promote themselves as Equicentral? Or holistic/natural yards.
There are two I know of in Tameside, greater Manchester. They're about £400pcm but might be more if you're not around to do daily checks/holding for a farrier etc

Thanks - good point to google ‘equicentral yards’ as that is becoming more popular 🙂
