How much are you charged per day for full livery and what is included in this price?

Particularly interested to hear from anyone who has had their horse stay at a vets/therapist.

Thank you in advance.

I think its a difficult one to answer. My horse was at Liphook for four days last week, and although I haven't had the bill yet, they mentioned £150 per day. i'm not sure what that included - whether his medical treatment was included in that. Will be better able to advise when they send me the enormous bill I was expecting to receive on Sunday when I collected him! The suspense is killing me!

Mine was around £50 per day, split on the bill as livery £20 nursing £30, this was the basic as he had no nursing as such, things such as injections were charged at £10 per jab on top of the drugs and it was things like that that really added up, the livery was minor in comparison.

Mine had a stay of 8 days at Minster York last year. Livery was 26 per day but then on top I had varying prices for medical nursing depending on how high his dependancy was (so this reduced through his stay) His 8 day stay for a respiratory problem cost my insurers £4k!

Basic cost per day at the vets I worked at was £40 for a night. Included all feed, hay, mucking out, watering and basic nursing care. Everything else went on top!

Mine have been at the RVC a few times and I think at the moment it's about £35 a day. That includes all livery care, feed, bedding, hay. It also seems to include checks, bandaging and dressing change and some nursing care as I have never had a separate charge for these.

There is also an intensive care unit so not sure if that is a different daily charge.

Mine was more expensive on the day my boy had the general anaesthetic and was then sedated for bandage changes (50 quid a day) as this was classed as hospitalisation but on the days he was just lounging about and eating loads it was 30 quid a day. He was in hospital 10 days in total - thank goodness for insurance!!

Reading this lot I'm feeling a bit more positive about my bill when it arrives! Sound like they included pretty much everything in the £150 a day guesstimate!

My mare spent 10 days at Newmarket Equine Hospital and I was dreading the cost, I was suprised to find out it was in the region of £30-£40 a day not the £100 a day I had expected.

April 2013 I was charged £25 per day for basic livery at my vets (horse was not there under insurance).
This was bedding, hay, basic feed & muck-out etc. They had students there at the time, so the Fuzzy got a groom daily too.

It was actually cheaper to send that Fuzzy to the vets for 8 days for treatment than to pay for 3 vet visits to my yard for the treatment in the same time! So it made sense to leave HF there :)

Definitely cheaper than own vet visiting - this is why we decided it was best to send mine to Liphook. I was also delighted when I picked him up on Sunday, to find that he was considerably cleaner than when I left him there (clay mud and profuse sweating is a NASTY combination!).

My mare went to the vets and because its a small practice so no other horses around and the fact she's hard to box,her companion Shetland went with her!!! We were charged £30 for about 24hours and the shettie looked very pampered when she came back!!

My vets is £20 per day for livery, daily veterinary care is charged separately as they found that insurance were quibbling about paying it when they charged combined. It was £140 per day for intensive care for a foal post surgery.
