Hi everyone,

I currently have my horse on a gorgeous DIY yard in Midlothian but am really struggling with getting up every day and not being able to school due to flooded/frozen outdoor arena. Can anyone recommend a good, not over priced, full livery with an indoor school? I know of Tower, EEC, Cousland - are there any others within a 20 mile radius of city centre?

Look forward to hearing from you!

Many thanks :)

A gorgeous DIY yard?! Where's that?!

Indoor schools with full livery that I can think of are

Edinburgh Equestrian Centre - you will either get on with her or you won't. Some people hate it, whilst others have been there for years and love it. Prices on website.

Cousland - no knowledge of it, I believe it has a good school.

Pentland House - I knew a girl who was there years ago and thought it was great. Another who thought it was dreadful! Each to their own!! I've never been.

Whitfield livery - Excellent facilites, very expensive DIY, but very reasonable Full!! About £87/wk plus hard feed for full. Rug changes extra. Seemed lovely but I decided it was too far out for me.

Tower Farm and Lasswade, both Riding schools so you may struggle to use the arena when you want.

I'm sure ther are lots out west Lothian and East Lothian that I can't think of.

Do a search on here, I'm sure this has been done before!

Thanks cm2581, I was at EEC but due to a number of reasons left after a few months, never to go back! Now at Lea Farm in Roslin and it is bliss (apart from no part/full livery!) Whitfield looks really nice and one I hadn't heard of but perhaps just a little too far to get to on a regular basis...

I know it seems I am asking the world, but am surprised at the lack of full liveries in the area advertised and was hoping there might be a couple of elusive ones by work of mouth....

Pentland looks nice but is pretty pricey, Cousland looks very nice and is easy enough to get to but again just above my budget.

Any other suggestions??

LOL...love the comments about EEC, i was also one of those people who never got on with her, though i was a teenage when we moved there and she really doesnt like kids. :p haha

I wouldnt go to Tower because they have NO grazing what so ever and its the kids who do nearly all the work and are allowed to run riot on the yard.

I am quite out of touch with the livery yards around Edinburgh now as i moved down to South Lanarkshire years back. I know theres a yard up Dalkeith way that do full livery and have an indoor school but cant remember what its called. :/

Have you tried Drummore at Musselburgh? Nice yard with indoor stables and school. Dont actually know if its still up and running. :)

The only place I can think of that is under £100 per week is Thornton. But it is a very basic service. The liveries mostly have to go up every night anyway to see to their horses. Think its £95 per week.

Btw, if Ur at a yard in Midlothian that you can describe as bliss then don't move. Try finding a freelance groom. There are lots of people offering services in Midlothian. How much do you pay for DIY? I never looked at lea farm as he said he only took geldings when I was looking.

Edgelaw equestrian is a possibility, there is assisted DIY offered. The indoor is basic and you can't lunge due to support pillars but it may suit your needs. Temple farm livery has an indoor school, don't know if they do full livery. I believe there used to be a ragwort problem there but that may have been some time ago and may be fine now.

Mount lothian I think are offering full livery and assisted DIY. Only an outdoor but doesn't flood and takes a lot for it to freeze solid as its rubber and gravel but can be very very deep. Depends if that would suit your horse.

Realise this topic is quite old but you never know , people still may be looking.

We have a new Full livery provider now, who offers first class care for your horses, (no need for evening visits!) and still under£100. :D
