As title really, all the yards in our area that are full livery have very little or limited turnout time. Is this commonplace everywhere? If you're on full livery, how long do your horses go out for and whats their basic routine?
Thanks :)

One of the reasons I wouldn't go on Full Livery even if I could afford it. I like my horse to live out through summer and that seems to be very rare round here.

The yards I have been on vary from out at night and in, in the day (summer) to a similar routine all year round of out 5 hours in winter to 7/8 hours summer during day.

depends on the definition of full livery! my part and full liveries can be out all the time or in part of the time. to suit the owner. the full liveries are worked 4 to 5 days a week. at a minimum for this time of year they are out for 12 hours, though most are out longer. depends what suits the owner and the horse. stables are all bedded down, to be used as req dependant on the owner and the horse!

Fleur is on full. In winter in at night out during day. May stay in if weather horrendous (get extremes on moor!) in summer out 24/7 except if v hot when comes in during day and night before a comp she stays in overnight :)

Works very well for me and Fleur!

The YM is happy to do whatever we want, within reason! Most are out 24/7 in the summer, mine goes out at about 9 and comes in at 2ish, earlier if he's hooning around!! In the winter they are out in the day and in at night.

From about the end of Nov- March ours are out for about 4 hours, most go on the walker for about 30 mins too. From March- Nov, they can go out 24/7, out at night and in in the day or just out in the day, from about 8-3. for some reason most of our liveries like them to be in at night, as a groom we would muh rather have them out!!

Mine's on full and they're very flexible as to what you want - to be honest now I'm on holiday I end up doing pretty much all of it anyway before the grooms have a chance to get to him  I always make sure he has AT LEAST 2 or 3 hours though. You have to bring them in for a short time at 4 so they can re-hay, and I tend to turn out in the morning but bring in to ride mid afternoon to avoid the rush, then I try to put him back out for a couple more hours and bring in before I leave. Dunno what it'll be like when holiday ends! xx

Mine is on full livery and goes out for as long as I want.

She is currently out from 4pm- 8am (comes in to stand out of flies) and from about November to April she is out during the day and in at night.

She went out every day in the winter- through all of the snow etc.

It was one of my biggest requirements when looking for a yard as I hate yard policy dictating when your horse is allowed out.

mine are out from about 8/9am til about 4/5pm
id like them out overnight in the summer as they would get longer out and also a break from flies/heat but sadly we cant.
mine defo need a min of 6hrs per day.

On the livery yard where I am you have the choice of having your horse out during the day or out at night. That is all year round, even in winter. However if your horse is out in the day then they only get half day turnout.

So for my horse he goes out overnight (after I have ridden, around 6-7pm) from April/May-October/Nov, then through the worst of the winter he is in overnight and gets morning turnout (7.30/8 - 12 ish). Through winter if I'm not riding in the evening then he will go on the horsewalker late afternoon.

At the moment he's out (or in) for as long (or as short) as I want . . . but there's no night-time turnout and no horses can be turned out alone - so there are limits. Kali currently only has 2.5/3 hours/day - but this is because he got quite rollypolly while on box rest and our grazing is very, very good . . . so I'm having to monitor his calorie intake to get his weight down as he comes back into work.

We are moving to a new yard at the end of this month - he'll be on full livery and because the grazing isn't as good as our current yard he'll be out for much longer. There is an option for 24/7 turnout (all year round) but I need to talk to the other liveries (who I know - which is a bonus) to see if anyone else would be willing to turn out overnight (don't want Kali out on his own).

Like alot of other people have said here, turnout is incredibly important to me - it chills Kali out no end and I just believe it's healthier for him - after a month in (due to injury) his feet were thrushy, his coat had dulled and he had a cough from all the dust in the barn . . . two weeks with turnout and he's right as rain again.

At our yard they can go out 24/7 if they like in the summer, or turnout is from 8am until 430pm, or at night time whichever you prefer. During the winter turnout is 830am - around 330pm depending on the weather. The fields are really well drained and we hardly get any mud at all.

I have previously been on yards that dont turn out at all in the winter though and its a total nightmare.

On our yard they go out between 9am/10am and mine comes in when I get there after work (6pm-ish) or if I don't make it up at some point between 7pm and 9pm in the summer. Winter they go out at the same time but come in between 4-5pm. During the snow they got individual turnout in either the indoor school or fatpony paddock while their stables were mucked out/rehayed & watered.

Dressage orientated yard, W Yorks.

Grazing quite restricted at my yard so they need to be in by 3pm. I think mine gets let out at about 9 or 10 and brought in at about 2 or 3.

Everyone, thanks for the replies, they seem to vary a lot! The problem I have is that my boy needs to go out for some of the day, (he's out now from 8:30am to 1:30/2pm) because otherwise the girls cant catch him or he buggers off with them when they're leading him! He cant have too long out because he's a pork chop balloon :(

The main restraint at yards local to me is that grazing is at a premium, none of our yards offer overnight turnout or 24/7 turnout in the summer :( i think that i should move!! :)

Mine were on full livery during the winter and went out from 8am to 4pm and came in at night even in all of the snow.

I swapped them to grass livery in the summer and pay a retainer on the stables for the coming winter.

The biggest problem everywhere is lack of grass to sustain turnout 24/7, although mine are beginning to waddle and not walk :/ as there is good grass.

Ours are in during the day at the moment so go out anywhere between 4-6pm depending if ridden or not! They then come in around 8am. In the winter they are out at 7.30am and in around 5pm.

This is for full livery and DIY.

My horse is on full livery, and he goes out for as long as I ask them too.

In the summer most of the horses on my yard are turned out 24/7, and are only brought in for riding, or feeding etc.

My horse is only going out for an hour a day atm however. They don't mind, they just do as you ask. x

My boy is on livery. He gets 24h turnout from April to October and when he is stabled he gets 3 days a week turned out. This works well for him as he sometimes turns on his mad eventer side when he is in for too long ;)
