Full livery question

How does anyone deal with their YO when their horse is on full livery. I go every day to my horse but have him on livery so all work is done and then i can ride and enjoy my horse and as I cannot ensure my hours of work I can be flexible at work and not panic about bringing my horse in etc.
Anyway I am friendly with the YO and get on well with her but find it really difficult to ask for anything for example I want a bigger bed but not sure if this is an arguement / disccusion I should have. My horse is happy, he lies down and he has clean bedding every day but if I was mucking out it would be deeper. I also have rubber mats (he is on shavings). I do not know if I am being over sensitive or not and worry as he is well looked after but am I being to mumsy !
 
Ask her and explain why - though you might have to pay more for extra bedding and the extra time taken for mucking out a deeper bed.
 
If I was YO, I would rather you asked than it fester away inside you which could lead to awkwardness. There could well be a logical answer, perhaps he's a wet dirty beggar so he has fresh in every day which costs a fortune so they're trying to keep within their budget or perhaps they don't think he needs it seeing as he has rubber mats. The only way you'll know is to ask and if you're still not too happy then ask if you can bring/buy an extra bale each week to top him up. If they're a decent YO, they won't mind, in fact they might be impressed that you know what you're talking about!
 
I have a couple of full liveries, they have rubber matting & shavings, one of them is very, very wet, I have a budget of one (maybe two if really needed in deepest, darkest winter) bales a week, I do my best to keep them clean and as fresh as possible but this horse is just wet through every morning so his bed is not that thick.
If his owner wanted a thicker bed she could always pay extra or put in more shavings herself, I wouldn't mind & I would understand.
Have a chat with her, it would be better than it becoming a problem.
 
I would just say with a smile that I prefer my horse to have a bigger bed so can I have an extra bale a week put in and I'll have it added to my bill at the end of the month. It's a perfectly reasonable request and you YO shouldn't mind at all, but bear in mind they have a budget to keep within otherwise they are doing it for nothing so you'll have to pay the extra.

We run a full livery business and owners do sometimes ask for more bedding. We're very happy to provide this for them, they pay a lot of money anyway and it's an all inclusive price.
We are very generous with the bedding anyway and I can't imagine only using 1 bale a week- when we used shavings they'd get 1/2 bale every other day.
