Hello,

I have my Clydesdale cob cross on full livery on a yard in Bexley. It’s fine but there are a few things that would suit me/us more… I wondered if anyone had any suggestions? The first is I’d like him to be out as much as possible on actual grass, at the moment the turnout is packed earth with ad lib hay or mud with ad lib hay and depending on the weather he’s out either not at all (not in every day but odd winter days that are too muddy or icy etc) or out max about five hours a day. In truth he could be out 24/7 if the ground drained okay and I think would like that although of course it’s nice to have a stable if the weather is really horrific. The second is the hacking is a little limited.

In an ideal world (that possibly doesn’t exist) I’d have more hacking, not too much road work and some other happy hackers to go out with. I need it to be full livery with the possibility of someone to school him in the week when I get very busy with work, or I could find a loaner who was looking for a very solid ride who was good to do in every way (but probably wouldn’t suit a teenager looking for thrills!). I’m also pretty new to this, so appreciate sensible guidance from more experienced owners than I.

On the side of things I don’t need… I don’t need a big school or fancy anything really, I like schooling once or twice a week but I’m not bothered (ie too scared? Ha ha) about jumping, I would love my present teacher to be able to come out but it’s not a deal breaker… I don’t do competitions or need to travel out particularly, although ofc a fun ride or two is always, well, fun!

I wondered about Bromley common, or out towards Biggin Hill, Eynsford etc… any thoughts? Thanks so much, really appreciate the opinions in here!

Farleigh court in warlingham is close to where you're looking and has good turnout and nice hacking :)

Farleigh Court is absolutely fantastic - if there’s a space there grab it!
It looks great… 24hrs turnout in the summer would be a dream come true! (Although looking at their website I don’t need the competition training side of things, so I’d also be interested in hearing about more basic yards too, if any exist so close to london….). X

Wickham Court Farm is great! Out all summer (in for a few hours during the day) and loads of turnout in the winter too. Lovely yard with v good facilities. Is DIY but assistance available if needed

It’s not a seriously competitive yard - most of the liveries just hack and do a bit of schooling. The livery fee includes a weekly lesson with the owner who’s a BE coach but she’s very good at tailoring lessons to her clients’ needs. When we were there it had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and all the horses seemed very happy. We only left as my daughter moved away for work.
