Are you serious??

Well, yes. In places.

That's kind of what I was trying to say.
Perhaps they're just not magnanimous?

I mean, one of them wears a BERET and the other one wears STONE WASHED jeans for heaven's sake!!

used to have my lad on full when jack was a baby,i was there every day it just meant i could spend time with him, riding grooming etc without worrying about time
smile.gif

however even though he was on full livery we had slightly reduced rate as i wont and dont let anybody make his feeds,i bought my own as i know him inside out and know what he does well on!!

I know this thread is a wind-up

but I just want to say, if you are at, or work at, a Full Livery yard dont judge your liveries too harshly. A member of my family has ill (ill enough to scare us) and didnt go to visit her horse for weeks (months?) as he was on full livery. She was just too poorly. But didnt tell anyone on the yard as its none of their business. Liveries may have bad personal problems, health problems or work problems... thats why they are paying for FL.

I work at a full livery yard. Have been there 2 months and have not yet met 2 horses owners. All of the horses are well care for but I could not have a horse and not go and see it at least.

I have horses on full board here, two of them I haven't seen since January! As long as the bills are paid I don't care, neither do the horses.

Odd though. When they do come they always bring friends, so I think they just like to say that they have horses. They may have a bit of a guilt complex though, the horses get sacks of carrots, and last time someone bought me half a deer for my freezer

(To go with the turkey he shot in my woods the time he was here before!)

Just finished 2+ weeks DIY. Was tedious and I can't wait to go back on Full Livery on Monday. Shovelling s**t is overrated. Time to leave my horse in the capable hands of the professionals. Looking forward to having more time for riding + I suppose I should really go back to work sometime

Here here!! I finished my DIY sentence having done 18 months. Now I'm on Part Livery, I go up every day and ride and spend ages grooming him and talking to him.

On the weekends I hack for hours and hours instead of spending my time hearing all the b!tching & moaning and breaking my back poo-picking 25 wheel barrows of poop. Sometimes I don't go up in an evening and I see my friends. It was nice to be re-introduced to a social life.

I really love my horse very much, but I couldn't do DIY anymore or I would be dead.

Nope, I don't miss it at all!

In order to assuage my guilt at being a terrible owner, I do six months on part livery, six months on DIY. Of course the DIY is when he lives out 24/7 in the summer, so I don't actually have to do anything as such. Except check he has 4 legs.

I would much rather look after my own horse but my current job sometimes involves being away from home in the week so she's on full livery livery Mon-Fri and I look after her Sat & Sun.
smile.gif
At least this way I knows she's got a routine and will be well cared for even when I'm not there.

Do you think full livery is a disgrace or do you just want to stir things up a bit - as you do
laugh.gif

Oh My goodness are you joking?? How is it a "disgrace" that you dont muck out your own stable and make up your feeds? :S

I don't mean to be stereotypical but it really is people who have too much time on there hands (because in most cases they don't actually ride their horses), can't afford it or have trust issues. I work with 7 full liveries on my yard and they are all treated like our own.

Personally I think its the time you spend WITH your horse that counts like the riding and grooming (if that isnt included in the package)
laugh.gif

Why not if you can afford it? And like me live 20 miles away ie a 40 mile round trip. Athough I normally ride 5 days a week, it just gives me the choice to ride or not. They go on the horsewalker and then get turned out immediately if we'renot riding. I like the choice it gives me. And he's in a great place.

I totally disagree Shils. The main problem with full liveries is their insistance on interfering with the horse's routine by coming up and taking him out and riding him all the time.

In my opinion most yards would run a lot better if the liveries were forbidden from coming up at all...

I really hope you are joking!!

Gosh that it narrow minded! I ride every single day and sometimes he won't get a day off for 10 days (shock horror).

I think you will find it is people who don't have time on their hands that choose PL or FL. There is no way I could do my job, get up at 5.30 every morning, ride every night after work and find the time to eat, breathe or sleep.

I don't really understand all this "you're on PL/FL and don't love your horse" rubbish. We all do, so where is the problem?

[ QUOTE ]
Yes, I agree.
The only alternative is to have my arrangement; crappy Full Livery and end up doing it all yourself!
