If you full loan, how do you pay? I know that everyone does it differently, of course, but do you pay it weekly, monthly, yearly?! Thanks

When I had a full loan, the horse was moved to a yard near me and I paid all the livery/farrier/vets bills etc... as if the horse was my own. I did not pay the owner anything on top of this. She visited him when she liked and when I outgrew him, she took him back to her yard (after the one month notice period had run out).

My understanding has always been that the horse is 'given' or loaned to you and you pay ALL costs towards it's keep unless otherwise agreed between loanee and Owner - some owners prefer to continue to pay insurance so that they know horse is covered should any medical issues arise and horse gets dumped back on them ;)

ets... no payment to owner on top of this ;)

When we full loaned in the past we took over all costs and paid nothing to the owner. She did keep the insurance but only because horse was a veteran and she did not want to have a problem getting her insured again if we gave up the loan. Prior to this we had the same horse on part loan and paid a set figure each week for a set number of days.

As above really, you pay all the day to day costs as you would if you bought. Only difference is sanctuaries & charities where you might have a yearly fee. Or if you lease, when you also pay the owner a fixed sum, a bit like rent. Leasing is only for really valuable types though such as top class competition horses & ponies.

I loan a horse now and my daughter loans a pony for my grand daughter...

In both instances, they moved to our livery yard and we're responsible for all costs (inc vet, teeth etc) while in our care... The pony's owner has time constraints that make visiting difficult so I text her photos regularly and the horse's owner pops up when she can to check her girl and have a cuddle...

Both need a sedation next week to have their teeth done and we did make sure both owners were aware and were ok with it and to check there were no sedation issues as it's a non emergency situation...

Both gorgeous girls and we're very lucky to have them... :)

My sharer is taking my boy on full loan starting 1 May. he is staying at his current yard and he will continue to have the same shoeing/livery/vaccinations etc as he had when she was just sharing but she will have sole use of him. the easiest option for both of us was for me to continue to organise & pay for everything and for her to reimburse me monthly. that way she doesn't have the responsibility of organising everything or the winter/summer cash flow variances and I know he's getting everything he needs :) win-win basically! it's unconventional but I think it's going to work for us.
