Hi all
Looking for recommendations please as I'm struggling to find a full neck stable rug which has will comfortably fit my big crested welshie. She is very wide through the base of her neck and I'm finding stable rugs don't fit her well at all! She is also VERY broad across her chest and needs something which is good for a wide chested horse!

All recommendations gratefully received

Haven't actually seen the stable rugs, but if they are anything like their turn out and fleece rugs, they are beautifully made and high quality. Any problems and they replace them with no qualms, the customer service is fab.

Having just looked, you can get the stable rugs without a neck, but buy the neck cover to go on the rug, so if you find one neck cover is a bit small, you can get the size up, and it will still fit on your rug.

I have a 17.2 warmblood with a big stallion like neck and is huge thru his chest and shoulder and the premier equine rugs fit great and they are really deep my heavyweight is a weatherbeeta and again fits great so I would say either bit with a detach-a-neck rather than a combo

I found the premier equine rugs way too tight for my big shouldered big neck fresian.

They fitted my Tank of an ID fine, but his neck and shoulders were in proportion to the rest of him!

It looked like this - (not my image but of a friesian with the same issue! almost like the neck hole in them is too small)

If you have something with large shoulders and neck I doubt they would fit.

I have really struggled to get rugs for the friesian, but found two that do fit :) the Weatherbeeta's and the Amigo XL ( designed for chunky horses)

See if there are any rugs you can try on first, I tried him in about 15 till I got the right ones lol!

I find weatherbeetas are very generous these days. My boy is welsh c x coloured cob and he has a big shoulder and decent neck on him, I find the weatherbeetas great, in fact the newest freestyle turnout is a bit too generous!

Dude thats my friesian!!!!

Another wondering why a neck is needed in a stable?! Don't forget that a horse with access to lots of long fibre in the form of hay or haylage should not need too much rugging. The fermentation of all that fibre means that your horse will be centrally heated.

These are the only ones that fit my friesian http://www.thebighorseshop.co.uk not that she ever wears one lol

Awesome! Thanks for uploading that pic to the tinternets, totally showed the exact same thing that those rugs done on my boy! It comes up on the google image search of " friesian rug"

( I can ask admin to remove it if you dont want it here :) )

That's interesting re the Friesian if anything on frank (welsh) pe are a bit baggy compared to his Rambos. I put a neck on him as little as possible tbh as they don't fit that great. He has a 6'3 neck attached to his 5'9 turnout if very wet or cold (so not yet this year!) and even when fully clipped as opposed to his usual blanket has never needed one in stable- would rather layer up body if I need to.

I just took delivery of an Epic stable rug with detachable neck from www.thebighorseshop.co.uk. Very generous sizing all round and would fit the broadest of chests. The neck rug is the first one I've got that fits my big boy that doesn't strangle him when he puts his head down to eat and is also long enough that it actually covers him up to his ears rather than half way up his neck.

Does she reed a full neck stable rug if she's cresty?

Surely the winter is the time to get them to loose weight by being cold.

My cresty ISH has a blanket clip and is naked at night in the stable - she is cresty - she needs to loose weight - she can get cold and use her fat to keep warm FGS

Can't even be bothered to don a tin hat.

If she's anything like my welsh D's her neck can be huge without being overweight. Genie especially has a hell of a muscly neck and I have found it hard to get neck covers that fit, not that I use them very often anyway!

OP - I use Weatherbeeta and Mark Todd on my two, with detachable necks. Horseware rugs I found ended up looking like the picture of the fresian above.

On my cresty and broad in the chest section D I use half necks, Shires fit her quite nicely. Never tried a full neck on her - I don't think any would fit her short wide neck. She is a totally different shape to my other D who has a very slim neck.

i found that my amigo stable rugs fitted well even though the turnouts dont. weatherbeeta rugs fit him okay (big enough though the neck and shoulder). premier equine rugs fit okay too.... i cant even remember what else i have but i have quite a few that fit Rio well and hes a tank of a horse through the shoulder and he has a massive crest on him and the only rug i have an issue with is a masta
