Full necked rugs anyone not using them?

The big lad is a wimp. He has necks, but then he came with pretty much no mane so the mane wouldn't give him much cover from wind and rain...

As I said - he's a wimp :(

Going to try and get him to grow some mane in the summer!

It's horses for courses isn't it. You have to do what you think is right.

Two of mine have full necks, neither have lost their manes, one has a very very fine mane anyway so not much protection in our weather. They are living out and are clipped and in medium work due to the weather, I'd like them to be in full work.

The yearling isn't clipped and has no rug. The Shetland came to me with a belly clip and had been stabled (as a companion for a laminitic) for many months so he has a no neck rug on as I got one with him. It's a bit small tho and when I replace it I will probably get a no fill neck type as it keeps them cleaner.

I'm with Ffionwinnie, depends on the horse. The oldie with Cushings had a high trace clip inAutumn as she was sweating, she has lost weight now so yes has a full neck Rambo duo. Her mane doesn't rub out but is smoother for it. The Spanish girl loses her precious mane easily, and isn't clipped, so no neck cover. The big boy is in a no neck cool heat rug and is doing well.

Me - I hate them, destroy the mane on my horse, they don't suit the shape of his neck, he is warm and I have a thing called a brush to remove any mud.

I don't have any rugs with full necks. I buy ones with optional necks, I find they fit better and give more options for keeping the horse at the right temperature.

My welsh has a chaser clip but is in a standard heavyweight. His mane fell out in handfuls when he wore the full neck lightweight he came with in autumn, so I'll only buy him standard necks now. He's beautifully warm and I haven't had any problems with water getting where it shouldn't. It just means he has an extra furry neck which, until this last week, he kept caking in mud.
