as well as looking for better fitting rugs, i may have gotten a little distracted and looked at leather headcollars, which are expensive to say the least, especially if i want it engraved which i do. ill definitely have to wait till xmas, unless i can get money before hand. i just want to get an idea of a headcollar size. he came with a full headcollar that fits perfectly on middle holes, we then brought another full, that was too small on its largest size. we now have another full headcollar that it quite tight but it snug and doesnt rub, fits perfectly on the largest size. now id like to get another blue headcollar as his other one is black, and the the other is too small, and the snug one is a fluffy one that i mainly use for travelling. do i get a full or an extra full? like i said one doesnt fir, the next is snug, the next is loose (could go tighter but i like that one loose as it goes over bridle etc) what do you guess think?
also wondering about saddle pads? his one doesnt have high withers is that a problem? im thinking of getting him a Lemieux one just cuz of their quality etc. again thats gunna be something i save up for
thanksss

I'm not a massive fan of Lemieux, I don't think they're brilliant quality for the money you pay. Premier Equine saddle pads are good quality and wear / wash well, but if you're going to save up for something really lovely think about Mattes.

Headcollars are like bridles or women's jeans...all makes are a bit different. So I would measure a current one that fits him well then go to a big tack shop and check the measurements against the brand you want. TBH though I wouldn't buy a new leather headcollar - you can pick really nice ones up for peanuts second hand, then you could polish it up and get an engraved plate fitted. Would be a lot cheaper and quite possibly better quality leather.

I prefer Griffin Nuumed.

I ended up selling my Lemieux. Don't like their stud girth either and will be selling the nearly new one I have too.

Headcollars fit differently. I usually take one to the shop with me to compare. If I buy mail order, I try on straight away and send back if they don't fit so we don't end up with an excessive number.

I have two leather headcollars (one is a Bridleways one, and other is a Windsor), both fit pretty generously

thank you that sounds like a good idea. i was looking at the equetex saddle pad, and omg, can anyone afford them. i saw adds and thought it was great for jj, little did i know that would be 2 years of bday and xmas money. ill look at the Mattes brand as well. ive had a look at premier equine as they were recommended for rugs as well.
