As title really...

Am 5ft8, a UK4 with a 36 inch inseam. Breeches are tricky!

Eurostar fit the best as sit low on the hips and snugger than most on the thigh. Love the little quirks (like sparkly zips etc) but the colour SUCKS. I've had a navy pair for only a couple of months, they've been washed a handful of times and always on a 30 but they've faded so badly!

Pikeur ladies come up big and sit very high on me, but I do find they wear well and have a pair (so high waisted they are reserved for under winter coats only!) that still look brand new after about 4 years.

Does anybody wear the kids/teens versions? What are they like? And where do you buy them from?

Lastly, does anyone have any Animo breeches? I know they're hideously expensive but my show jacket fits beautifully (in fact is one of the few things I own that I've not had to have taken in!), it would be so nice to have breeches that aren't baggy and don't make contact with my bra underwire!!!!

Yours faithfully,

Eating lots of pies x

Err, eat more? I used to have similar measurements to you (5'7'', UK size 6 and 38'' inseam), and it was almost impossible. Now I'm a size 10 it is much easier. I do sympathise though, and would be interested to hear responses.

I am exactly the same - only ever found one pair I really like. They are tredstep ones which I picked up in a bargain bin at the Norfolk show. Have googled them and can't find them anywhere. Just wondering what make your jacket is? Mine hangs off me like a bin bag and I really want a new one.

Jacket is Animo, size is IT38 :)

ETA, have previously had a pair of Ariats that just didn't suit me, but off to perve on sizes and styles, thanks!

Waiting for the eating disorder comments... ;).

I have mainly children's jods/breeches. But then I'm short so I would do. I find they have less in the way of hips and waist, so they don't go baggy round my hips and are shorter from crotch to waist, which also suits me better. I think my inside leg is about 28" though, but they often come right over my ankles, so you should be able to cover them with long socks still.

I have some nice mountain horse ones I picked up from the big sale near me which I like. Can't think what my others are right now.

Looking at my relatives I don't think I'm ever going be a typical size.

Sensible suggestions welcomed....

Oh I hope you don't think I was being rude - I should have used one of these ;):p:tongue3::tongue4:
Before I had a sitting down job I found it impossible to keep the weight on so I do understand.

It's few years ago, but I used to get mine from a company called Equine Couture Tuscany, but they only ever used to be available from the US and Canada - I had a relative in the US at the time who used to send them to me.

Oh & if you want a pair of full seat denim breeches, I've got a virtually brand new pair of Derby House ones for sale that sound like they would fit you a treat!!

Personally i couldn't see you in Derby house ;)
I would try Animo or Prestige- both super small sizing, I believe Animo do kids sizing too, also lots of sparkle and bling.
I've just ordered another pair of euro star and was hoping the colour fade was just a one off, my navy pair have also faded so badly, yet Pikeur are beautiful.

I am near enough the same sizing as you - love animo, they are expensive but last for ages, and seem to be the best fit I can find. Sometimes you can pick them up really cheaply (relatively!) if they are an odd size.

:D whilst they aren't a prestigious name they do fulfill the brief given & are a brand of breeches that I find fit skinny Minis much better than some of the bigger 'names'

Have you tried the Anky breeches?
I was going to scream Pikeur as im a mahoosive fan but see you've already tried those.
Maybe see if you can get hold of the Schumacher breeches too, as they do small waste and long legs.

Anky are HUGE! I went down 2sizes in Anky! Cavello are smallish

Wow thanks everyone for your suggestions!!!!

Lol no Dabdab!!!! I do have a desk job and am nicknamed Biscuit Barrel because all I do is graze all dayyyyyy long. Have put on a lot of weight since this time last year, and usually put on a bit more over Christmas too. I weighed quite a bit more at uni but that was alcohol weight and I literally don't ever drink now.

I agree that Anky are HUGE!!!!! I would need a XXXXXXXXS in them :P

Off to perve at HKM stuff.

Yes I'd spied those Animo ones - I don't mind spending money on something if I know it's going to be worth it. I don't buy breeches often at all, and only have a pair in black, brown, grey and navy (and a brighter blue pair just for winter, very Simon Cowell/Pikeur!), so as long as they DO fit and they ARE going to last, I would happily spend the money on Animo.

I've found Cavallo comes up quite big and the rise sits really awkward on me :( (that may well just have been the style, so off to have a look at them too).

Does anybody ride in the Gersemi stuff? I've had a couple of polos and jackets and found the sizing ok, but wondered how the breeches fit proportion wise?

And hey don't knock the Derby House! I had a pair of softshell style breeches given to me that were own brand and they fitted really well, they were always just a touch big around the waist though (even in the ruddy smallest size!).

You'll all be pleased to know I am having an actual pie for dinner!

John Whitaker do their adult breeches in kids and teens. Just bought their "bling" breeches from a seller on ebay half price and I am impressed with them. Had them a day and 2 people have said how nice they are!

First of all dye your navy pair and and they should come back to proper navy lovely!! Stick with the Italian brands...equiline, animo, cavelliara Toscana and Christina Sport. All are smaller fitting and a good place to start...the Christina Sport in particular!

Have you tried Caldene? I don't know whether they'll have what you're looking for in their range but I do know that they come up rather small!

I also agree with amage re Italian brands - the quality will inevitably be better and they always come up smaller, in 'normal' clothes as well as horsey ones.

Good luck!

I tried on Animo breeches at the RDS last week and i am in love!! They have so many beautiful styles and trims and they are insanely comfortable. Definitely worth a look. The new Tredstep range looks lovely too.

Try Eurostar, or indeed any of the German brands. Back when I was your size (maaaany years ago) these were the only ones that fit (I'm nearly 6' and still have the inseam, at least...........)

Completely off topic, but I am very jealous that you are that height and still manage to look really good on tini tiny PREs (unless your PREs are actually giants of the breed)

I'm 5'10 1/2", but my inseam is 31"; NOTHING is long enough, I have to alter everything! And my PRE's average 15.1, but are all quite round and barrel-y, the old Baroque type.

ETA: and thank you :-)

Thanks everyone!

Cortez I agree that ES breeches come up quite small but the colour is just naff! I can't dye them as the pockets are a silver colour and diff material and don't want to end up with mulchy coloured pockets!!!!

Found myself a kiddie pikeur retailer - love the quality of pikeur stuff and with them being kids/teens they won't be cut so high or for hips. Bingo!

Might ask for a pair of Animos for Birthday or Christmas :D
