We have been having a discussion at the yard tonight, and wanted to know your thoughts.
I am on DIY livery, and at the moment we have very restricted turnout, they are allowed out in the morning when the fiels is frozen, but get brought in when it starts to thaw, and no turnout at the weekend because we are basically all around to do something with them. Its not ideal, but my boy is happy with it.
The full liveries are basically getting all day every day turnout.
Now I always thought that being full livery you are paying for the service of stable duties and horse care, whereas DIY we do that ourselves.
Is it normal when you are full, your payment includes turnout?

I'd say your yard is being a bit cheeky - the longer the full liveries are out, the lower their hay bill!

At my yard, if the horses are going out, everyone (diy / assisted) etc can turn out.

Full livery would usually include turnout.

For me, full livery is everything including exercising and tack cleaning. Part livery is everything excluding exercising and tack cleaning.

It could be that it is not possible to exercise the full liveries at the moment, hence longer turnout periods.

I am on full and expect this to include turnout, subject to weather etc. There are no DIY at my yard, however if there were I would expect the same rules for each ?

DIY doesn't mean you don't get to use the bl00dy field! Cheeky sausages. That's really quite naughty IMO. I'd be having words myself!

Bit cheeky IMO. THere are no full liveries on our yard and our 3 are the only on part livery, which is basicall mornings only. It makes no difference though on our yard, full, part, diy, grass keept etc, turnout is there if you want it 24/7 with no restrictions.

That is very cheeky!

It looks like they want to save hay and don't want the DIYers horses eating the grass, they'd rather you pay the extra in hay costs yourselves and not them.

What a cheek!

I dont have a problem with it, I am lucky that I have a pony that seems quite happy where ever he is, and I am also at the yard early enough in the evening to do whatever with him.
The fulls are in a separate field to us, its not that we all share a field.
Personally I am quite happy saving our field for when he wants to be out there, in the spring, and not standing knee deep in mud.

Up to the yard owner I'm afraid however unfair it may seem. Look at it from the other point of view - if you were paying a lot more money for full livery (whichever way this is interpreted) you would be unhappy if DIY'ers were treated on an equal footing.

I hate the livery hierarcy (sp)

First Class = competition livery
Then you have 7 day livery with excercise
7 day livery without excercise but horse is groomed and tacked up for you and untacked
Then 7 day livery
Then 5 day livery
Then assisted livery
then DIY
then grass livery

arghghggh - if the horse is looked after in a regime that suits the horse and the owner and the oweners pockets why should those with the deepest pockets be classed as the best owners?

 Full and DIY should be treated equally! DIY shouldn't include turnout service, but your horses shouldn't be any less allowed in the fields if you put them there.

So who brings the DIY horses in?
IMO the staff should be bringing in the full liveries if any HAVE to come in. This way the DIY people can suit their hours to their own work schedule etc. I work full-time, si I certainly wouldn't be able to bring in after a morning.

Exactly! Full livery costs cover people time NOT the facilities. As a DIYer I would expect my fair share of turn out, use of the school, use of the walker etc.

You don't pay THAT much less for DIY that you would expect not to be allowed to use everything.

Makes me glad I'm on a yard where we are all DIYers. No wonder people come on here moaning about their yards. Sheesh.

And I don't mean you Benson. If you are happy the way things are then that is brilliant :)

My full livery includes daily turnout - either field or play area - or if can't get out, YM will lunge.

BUT these facilities are open to all! The play area everyone gets free for half an hour every day (2 sharing get an hour) but you have to pay extra to use the field. If I want George in the field rather than play area - I pay extra for the field.

But I have quite a diferent full livery deal, I pay DIY charges with a "service" charge on top, which means I get to pick what he gets, how much bedding etc and means summer is much cheaper (I get my service charged halved as no mucking out) :D:D

im a full livery and the only difo between that and DIY is the DIY have to muck out, put out hay in stable and water , thats it. They are still in same fields as full livery horses, as the staff bring in and turn out all the stabled horses - full and diy

seems strange to me, i would complain about that, all horses should be out same length of time in the field,

See, it does kind of make sense to me, although I can see why others would think different. But I suppose its because I am happy with it. I wouldnt of been there for 10 years if I wasnt happy!
Its when people are the first to complain when there is no grass in the field in the spring, and the horses are knee deep in mud, but still insist on turning them out!
But it is very interesting on what others get.

I would love a 'play area'!
Were on individual turn out - So its do as you want - When YO decided its too wet - EVERYONE is in.

My problem is im a 'brave' DIYer and chuck my girl out in the rain! (i know!!!) - The full's go out too - but the fulls come in at 3pm and my girl is out till 5 all alone!!! (I dont let this happen usually) :(
I have to pick my days out very carefully.
