I was going to order 2 full bars to go in my trailer so I can take partition out but my dad (not horsey at all) has said that he could make something out of scaffold poles and fix on a quick release mechanism, Has anyone else done this? Anyone got any pics of their full width bars so i can have a look?
thanks

I have pressure treated timber full breast bar ( a very thick one ) but a modified scaffold pole is just as good as long as its well made/finished and fixed on with the correct fittings then it will do the same thing.

It must be able to take the weight of the horse falling onto it

I would be a little wary of using a scaffold pole, unless it had been reinforced as it may bend fairly easily with a lot of weight behind it.

We made ours from galvanized pipe, with welded ends to fit into a ifor trailer and clip in as normal

They have stood up well, although the 16.3hh thug did bend the back one a little bit.

i bought a set of full length breast and breeching bars for my trailer ( requisite 200) for travelling babies and if nessecary mares and foals or 1 big one, i wouldnt improvise if you can buy the correct parts to fit, at the end of the day in modern day trailers with plastic fronts if your breast bar fails and your pony hits the front of the box with any force would hate to see or hear the consequenses.

I had a breast bar for my old trailer made out of angle iron. Then I put plastic drainpipe over the top. It worked ok.

When I bought my current trailer(Rice)I was able to purchase a breast bar from Rice. It is better because it has all the correct fixings.

When my OH gets home I will ask him whether angle iron is stronger than scaffold poles. He knows things like this!!!!!

OH is home. He tells me that I had "box section" not angle iron- well what do I know!! He says box section is stronger than scaffold pole.
