Chatting with YO today about the good old days  and got talking about lotions, potions etc and she said years ago her horse had ulcers and the vet recommended Fullers earth - apart from other forms also comes as Cat litter and the vet said it could be fed to the horses ?
Now I've done a search on here and there's only a few posts about using as a poultice so I'm convinced my YO is a loon.........:p
I've googled it and various websites come up and it is indeed suitable for gastric conditions amongst other ailments but this is in Health shops and not Pets at home.
Anyone else heard / experienced this ??

I do vaguely remember many years ago hearing of this being used. But it was so long ago I can't honestly remember too much detail about it.

I have to say though, I cant really remember that ulcers were something that were widely recognised as an issue back then. Now it seems that almost every highly strung horse might have them?

Not too sure if this is a miraculous side of progress with new found knowledge, or yet another faddy illness that is blamed for every single short coming a horse might have!

Sorry - slightly off tangent musing there!:o

No I totally agree, I think if you did a search on here titled Gastric ulcers there would be pages and pages. I just think people are more likely to get a vet out now and check things out rather than carry on and 'get on with it'. The subject came up as the other livery has a feedroom that has a powder for every eventuallity

It was the Fullers earth that really surprised me. I'm going to go to Pets at home sometime and look at the 'ingredients' and compare with the Health shops online.
