I recently swapped my copper roller cheek snaffle for a fulmer because the copper one wasn't dressage legal. I never used keepers with the CR. I got some for the fulmer because the cheeks were so big! But it looks very uncomfortable in his mouth when the keepers are on - I understand what they are there for, but when I took them off he seemed happier and played with the bit more (the keepers fix it in place as i understand it? So I wonder a) have I got the keepers on right (how far over the cheek strap do they go - has anyone a picture?? and b) can you ride without them?
Also because the fulmer kept rubbing the noseband I had to move it up, then it was too tight so I swapped it for a grackle! Sigh. I have thought about a drop...
I don't want to change the bit as the cheek snaffle definetly helps with steering! He also seems to go better in one...
Any suggestions
