Does anyone use this bit for helping them turn. Before anyone says about flatwork, I have been working my new horse trying to get the left rein lighter, and we have achieved this quite nicely in walk and trot and it is getting there in the canter, but not perfect as I found out when I took her to our first competition yesterday. When we had to turn left into a fence, I found myself using my inside rein aid and almost overshooting the jump. Back, teeth new saddle, there is no reason why she should now do this but it will take a little time for her to get out of the habit. Does this bit help with turning?
She has a loose ring french link at the moment so she would need the loose ring version.
Thanks in advance.

Yes I do. I prefer a loose ring french link for schooling. But when we are out, particularly hacking I use a french link fulmer because he's so nosy and nappy that it helps keep him straight. If he is particularly non attentive in any other bit he completely ignores my aids and will just turn his head wherever he wants, so it is helpful I think. It also prevents the bit from sliding through the mouth.

Me too. I don't need it most of the time but if something spooks him the brakes tend to fail for a few strides & so being able to turn is crucial! The full cheek is noticably more effective in these situations, plus I needn't worry about pulling the bit through his mouth if I do need to give a good tug - subtlety is wasted on him if he's in a flap.
