Just wondering if fulmer loops make any difference to the mechanics of full cheek bits?

The purpose of the loops is to keep the bit in place in the mouth and the right angle/height and I think they are more beneficial when using with youngsters as they help with direction and steering. I am not sure if they offer a very, very slight poll pressure too.
I didn't use them with my horses bit as I was told it would defeat the use of the mouthpiece (lozenge) but can't remember why now.
