was merrily driving through the village this morning and although the road isn't single lane it's quite tight for 2 cars to pass each other, was doing approx 18 mph as know there could be farm tractors round corners etc, went through the main village and was approaching the first bend out of village and to my dismay a lady riding and leading 6-8 polo ponies came round the corner, the 3 on my side literally s+it themselves quite righlty as the bend was so sharp i ms

That sounds awful, although I used to lead in a fair few at once from a field and people used to go mad, I would have 3 in one and and maybe 3 or 4 in the other!

I used to ride polo ponies and we would ride and lead upto 8 ponies. But we had a massive private estate to ride on and we never went on the road. Thats just madness

where i work there are loads of polo yards and i have come across this while rounding a very tight bend in the village, rider also managed to be smoking while riding and leading about 5 or 6 polo ponies.....quite a multi tasker! I slowed right down and let her pass and didnt even get a smile of thanks. i understand that this is the done thing in polo but i do think it is pretty dangerous and stupid especially on windy little lanes.

Totally agree, it's mad. I've done polo, and found it absolutely no problem to ride 1 and lead 4, in canter, while talking on the phone and smoking a cigarette (and no, I wouldn't even consider it now, don't even smoke lol). But on the road?? No chance.

i used to ride one and lead 3 either side - and generally bareback as i couldn't be bothered with a saddle when riding so many sets lol!
but again - no - not on roads!

On my yard we have polo ponies every season. The ponies are regularly exercised (in fields) or brought in from/out to the field with one being ridden (sometimes bareback) and leading 3/4 horses either side in just headcollars. In polo it is the done thing and all of the horses are easy to control like that, they have to be for polo.

But on a road...never! :O

dam right stupid!!!!
On a private estate ok maybe, if they get lose you can round them up but on the roads that's madness.
I rent a field half a mile down a quite country lane and will only 2 down there cause one horse in each hand is enough to control, iv tried 3 but wasn't quite happy with it and if I let one go I'm gona have trouble
