Well, the farrier was meant to be coming to yard this morning to shoe my horse and another livery's 3 horses. He's normally fairly unreliable - Once he turned up at 7am rather than 8am, and he is often late, Today he was meant to visit at 8am, so both myself and the other livery were waiting for him. Come 11:30am STILL no sign of him. Both of us had left several texts asking to let us know if he was coming or not, as we were standing around not able to do anything. Not a peep from him followed. In the end we turned our horses out and went home. I know farriers can have bad skills when it comes to communication and timing, but surely this is ridiculous!!!!!!!?????????

I would be too. Mines excellent I have to say, He does one of mine and by the time I get to him from work he is usually redy to do the other. If he is late he always lets me know.
I Like mine alot he is a refreshing change!

I would be fuming too, that is ridiculous.

My farrier is usually excellent but he won't pre-arrange an appointment even though I know I want my horse re-shoeing in 5 weeks time. I have to ring the weekend before I want them shoeing and then he rings me back the night before he is coming. Farriers seem to have a law unto themselves.

My old farrier is far worse than any of those...
It took me 4 weeeks to get him to shoe my horse once. He would phone the night before and say he was coming. I would then phone in the morning and he would still say he was coming - usually at lunchtime. Lunchtime would arrive & no farrier. Call his home number & his mobile - never any answer. Eventually get him in the evening & get very drunk sounding farrier on the phone. We think he had a problem with liking empty bottles of whisky too much - the bottles would be empty because he had drank them all!

Fantastic farrier & did an amazing job if you ever managed to prise him away from the bottle. Now, I wonder why I changed farriers?!?

Passed my old farrier driving to neighbour's yard one Friday lunchtime when he was due to shoe mine. Said he would be no more than an hour or so, so I kept the horse in and waited, and waited, then rang and rang, but he had switched the phone off so I finally turned the poor horse out and gave up after about 4 hours.

Later found out he had gone straight down the pub, said he had got too wet to shoe any more, yet he could have told me there and then, or made just one phone call to let me know. Yes, I swapped too after that! Ex-farrier now in Thailand...

My old farrier was dreadful - used to make appointments and never turned up. Got to the stage that I used to ring him 2-3 days beforehand to confirm he was coming and he still wouldn't turn up. Now I have a fantastic farrier - he phones when he is on his way, quite often asks if he can be early (!), is great with the horses and is the best farrier I have had in 30 years of owning horses.

My Farrier did that to me once, I swore about him for hours, Turned out that him and his dad were shoeing the job previous to me, and his dad keeled over with a heart attack and died. I let him off for than one

my farrier has never let me down in all the 25yrs he has shod my horses,l love my farrier very much, but then..... l am married to him

grrr farriers! Took me 2 months to get my old farrier to come and shoe my pony once! It's completely unacceptable, especially as a lot of people have to fit it around their own jobs and commitments too

I rang my last farrier every day for a week and left 5 messages for him but he didn't get back to me

I have changed farriers now, and my new one is fab. He's also very good looking and I have a bit of a crush on him!

I married mine too! It was either him or the vet, and I decided on balance I needed a farrier more regularly

He's just shod one of mine this morning, did the other one last week, just got to persuade him to do 4 trims now ...

We're thinking of getting him to shoe our horses next week - He texted other livery in the end - after lunch - to say his phone battery was dead so he had not heard it - And then he's put our appt in the wrong page of his diary.
Now, his phone was ringing and ringing before it went onto answer machine, which would suggest it was on? Also other livery saw him write our appt in correct page of the diary last time.
Thinking of letting him shoe next week (he said he'd come then) and then letting him go.

Dont know why people cant just do what they say they are going to do or phone to let you know, sounds like some of you need to vote with your wallet and use someone else.
