After my post yesterday about my sick puppy, I've just collected him from the Emergancy vets (and taking him back to my own vets) he cannot control his bladder , still blood in his poo, and on a drip??!!!

I said its leahurst or home and he's obs not well enoug for home?! There is no way in hell am I transferring him again tonight back to weekend vets so I've gone into our vets and demanded a referral ,

I cannot even get him out the car Ffs.

He's ill and needs more monitoring

He also reeks off piss and vomit

Crying and fuming

The fact that he's being shunted back and too each night from vet to vet mostly

My vet agreed too he needs referring and poss 2nd surgery

So that I should think...

!

I'd be spiiting too. Poor puppy. There are some crap vets out there. All the best for him and I hope he is soon in Leahurst. I think you should report emergency vets, when this is all over and the dust has settled and you have time to think.

he's now in leahurst - in intensive care...the vet is guarded about his prognosis.

he's a very sick puppy who may not even see christmas

i was right to be fuming and angry - someone has ****ed up (not leahurst - the vet there is lovely and i appreciate her honesty).... the last vet said there was no way he needed to go as a referal they are for emergancies not monitoring

my poor puppy kept weeing himself at leahurst and refused to eventually get up. he looked exhauseted and was obviously in pain as he couldnt stop crying and then started shaking

i feel devastated for my dog.

Fingers crossed for him, at least you know he will get the very best of care from now on. Whereas I can appreciate that if he needed 24 hours nursing and your vets didn't offer it then he would need to be moved, cannot understand why the 24 hours vets wanted to keep sending him back.

me neither as they are actually open24/7?

but if he had stayed there he would be in even more serious trouble

just hoping its a very nasty infection that clears up without the need for surgery or a very long stay as she did say upto 2 weeks

i hate leaveing him i really do - he wagged his lovely tail when he saw me. he was obviously in pain and that was the worst bit -

Im glad your pup is now at Leahurst and I hope they can get him on the road to recovery and he gets to come home.

From what you have said about your previous vets it certainly sounds though they have failed him dismally. A lot of vets are not happy about referal and a friend met with absolute lies about the referal cost going to another vet, these proved completely unfounded.

Noodle, dont give up, keep positive and remember you have a lot of support on here.

Thank you.

i do feel the last vets have failed him - i also think ive failed him for not insisting on saturday or latest sunday morning he went to leahurst

i know hes in the best place but ive never seen a dog so ill and distressed. breaks my heart.

x

What do they think is wrong with your pup?
For the future you really need to find and register with a vets that provides 24 hour care at their own practice - then your animals will never be shipped back and forth and will always be treated by people they know. THe 24hr vet that was providing your overnight care are not 'allowed' ethically to poach clients from the vet practices that use them as cover. They must send them back to the original vet - a ridiculous fact that doesnt have the animals interests at heart but the only way round it is to leave your original vet and register with this 24 hour vet or another one that provides 24 hr care. Unfortunately they are often more expensive as they have a lot more costs than a vets that shuts completely at night - heating, staff, insurance etc

thanks.

my normal practise vet was lovely - he did offer to have a nurse stay overnight with him tonight at the practise but i refused as i wanted him to leahurst - too much time wasted on him just being "monitored"....

today i had the impression he would be home....as he had apparantly improved so much yesterday

once he's better i will sort out the practise situation

What an absolutely horrible situation, I feel for you :( Fingers and toes crossed he recovers soon, I know he will have a great nurse once he's allowed home (!) and when this is all over I second looking into the way the situation was handled. Hugs to you both x

yep i will be questionining the middle vet (weekend referal).... not happy there..

leahurst have been brilliant........ lovely nurse has just rung me, this morning to say hes wagging his tail and heard him having a howl on the phone ( :D )

they are so nice and as much as i miss him terribly, he really is in the right hands there.

if he can stay there until he's 100% having him home monday for christmas eve would be the best present ever :) but if not then as long as he is ok then thats all that really matters :)

Vet rung

He's doing really well :-). IF he keeps improving he will be let out Friday :-)

Mum can watch him fri/sat/sun as I'm working so we will see how he gets on :) lets hope he keeps picking up :-))))

Awwww glad he is doing better - fingers crossed he keeps getting better. I have been following your posts and was keeping my fingers crossed for him. x

he's coming home friday :D :D

i will be writing a ltter to suggest to the middle vets where they went wrong (to put it politely!)

our vets will be getting some helpful suggestions too as they already expect

leahurst have got a small gesture, a thank you card :) and i am grateful they are so good and on my door step

roll on friday!!! :D
