So I arrived at the yard last night to find that the liveries who I have been having serious issues with now for about two years have pulled out my wooden fence posts and take a 6foot strip of my field all the way from one and if the field to the other for themselves. YO hasn’t said a word to me about it so I don’t think it’s been asked for. I was given this field by the YO when I moved there nearly four years ago. They have narrowed the track to the field so that the tractor and topper can’t get in and also it’s only three foot wide so my horse is panicking going through it.

These people have assaulted me both physically and verbally. The police have charged them but done their usual and done nothing else. This was summer last year. They have continued to harass and intimidate. Can’t move stables until someone leaves as most of the liveries have been in the yard for more than 10years some nearly 20yrs. I’m not wanting to move yards as it suits us perfectly and my horse is happy there and we are left to just get on with it. Hay and straw bought onsite etc. it’s just these people turned sour when I wouldn’t do everything their way.

When we went to the YO about the assault they did nothing. Even after the police got involved. Basically told us if we all didn’t get on they would just empty the yard completely. I am approaching the YO as this is ridiculous and I want my field back. I have paid for it. Has anyone else gone through this? I have reported the harassment and intimidation to the police again. Please no ‘I would just move’ comments as in this area we are very limited with yards never mind those offering all year turnout which is what my horse needs. Thank you

I would be fuming too, you are in an awful situation and you will struggle if the yard owner doesn't support you.

The yard owner sounds like they don't really want the hassle of being a yard owner and managing the yard. Based on what you have put I wouldn't expect a resolution. They may surprise you though.

What they have done is create an insurance liability for the YO if the space they have left is too narrow to safely take a horse down and the YO leaves it like that. Likewise made it difficult for YO to do field maintenance if the tractor can't get in - those would be the points I would be stressing to YO.

Is YO afraid of them?

Might be worth getting a camera, they aren't expensive (u can get solar powered, with sim card), make it known it's there so u can check on your horse ... But make sure the footage includes the fence etc.. should stop them doing anything else. This does depend on you having somewhere suitable to place a camera though.

I think taking a large man with you who doesn't mince his words could also be helpful if u feel threatened.... Or wear a camera on u, then as soon as they are abusive u can prove their vile behaviour !!

Probably worth surveillance asap, yesterday, if they are so underhand and also brazen with their threats, I’d be extremely worried what might be done to deliberately upset my horse. It doesn’t sound like either your landlord or the police are going to be much help, sadly.

OMG how disgusting, I honestly can't understand how people are allowed to get away with this kind of behaviour! I would honestly be concerned and be looking to move ASAP. I know the location suits you and the horse is happy etc. but this isn't good for your mental health and potentially physical health, by the sounds of how they're behaving!

I would look into one of those vest attaching cameras that they have at Aldi or similar so you can keep a record in video form of who said what - if the police are already involved.

You can put the fence back up where it was - but be prepared for confrontation

I think in the situation with the history you have described if the YO wasn't going to help and there was no end in sight. I'd probably move my horse a long way away to grass livery if necessary and give them 6-12 months off until a space came up at a yard in which I thought both my horse and myself would be safe.

These people shouldn't win and you shouldn't be the one that has to move on - sadly they seem to hold all the cards.

I like the sound of the big burly blokes idea coming and putting the fence back. (Not sure where you source them from though.) Not sure about filming it - wouldn't that look like stirring? Just get the job done with as little to-do as possible. Idk. If I were the YO I'd be in a pickle. But then I can't imagine being a YO and having to deal with normal nonsense let alone this sort of behaviour.

If you said to the YO that you were reducing your livery payment by x% as .you had less land, would that stir them into action? Surely they cannot run a business where one of their clients is suffering abuse and intimidation by another? What are they taking your money for ? They aren't offering you much of a service, they have a duty of care - if, for example, your horse injures himself as the entrance to your field is now so narrow, if the inability to maintain the fields impacts on poisonous plants or unsafe fencing, if the wooden fence post holes haven't been filled in properly, your horse could suffer a severe injury. At the end of the day, they are running a business, you are their client, and it is down to them to step up and sort this out

So update have had words with the Farmer. Have shown them what’s happened and explained this has been going on a while. He is going to speak to them. He has agreed to let me create a secure area in the store room for my belongings. So that will be going up asap. The police have been contacted again. Just waiting on their response however I’m not holding my breath considering the police presence in this area is flipping non existent.

That sounds positive - well done!
