I went to Towcester races today and I had a lot of fun! Even if it was extremely cold!

I didn't bet on anything and I'm glad! All my favourites lost, haha!
Was anyone else there today? :)

A woman got on my nerves though, her kids were standing on the rails and the fence attendant asked her very politely to get her kids to step off the rails. She kicked up SUCH a fuss, the poor lad who dealt with her looked utterly miserable.
The thing that shocked me most was the father was standing a little way up the track and one of the kids ran up to him and he asked "What's she doing now?" and the child said "She's telling him our rights!!!!"
Silly woman XD

Here's a few pictures :)
Does anyone know this horses name? I took a liking to it and would love to find out more about it :)

Nice pics - did you not get a race card? It should tell you which horse that is. If you didn't get one, look in the local/national papers for the race meeting/race time and it will be number four!

Thanks ^^ No, we don't really go racing (I think I've been three times?) so we don't really know what to do :p We just like watch the horses and choosing the prettiest to win :p

There was a website where I found all the information and videos of the ex racer we have at the yard, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called! You can see all their racing history, how much they've won etc..

wheyheyy racing!!! im a racing maniac, i go to warwick LOADS and never miss channel 4 racing on a saturday XD obsessed would be the correct word

i think hte site you are on about is the racingpost.com if you type a owner jockey trainer horse etc from any time into the search bar theyll come up, they also keep the listings of every race (you could search the 1990 gold cup if you wanted too) ill get you a link...

scroll down until you see towcester if you remember which race it is then the horse would be number four, or you can just look through them and if you remember the jockeys silk it has them at the side

You MUST buy a race-card as it has all info required to pick a winner, and is useful for autographs and looking knowledgeable.
Brilliant pictures btw
Oh and Towcester has a very long hill up to finishing post and free entry/!

i have a habit of always keeping my racecards, even if they don't have autographs in (most of them do) ive still got the page from the racing post when i went to haydock to see kauto star in the betfair chase, bit of a hoarder!! you should go racing more often, i find it never gets boring and you learn a lot about racing from actually going, when i first went i thought the commentator was talking jibberish, i cant actually understand him now!

Yay! LOVE racing too! We went to Ludlow just before christmas and won £65. Me and my mum must have looked like the worst, silliest betting Newbies ever ever but we must have done soemthing right. And AP was there, and I love him. And the place is full of bars! Going racing is the best afternoon out :)

Oh thank you soo much, so next question is how do I take it from your post? I am a complete techno phobe

You can either right-click and press 'save as' or http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j308/gothic180/AtTheRaces065.jpg go here :)

My mum really enjoyed it :) Which hopefully will mean we'll be going more :D

On the same lines...where would I go about looking at ex-racers around the Buckinghamshire area? I'm not sure if an ex racer would be my thing and now I can't get a horse until 2014 anyway. Just wondering :) No harm in having a look around ^^

Yes a racecard is a must for anyone going racing. I used to use mine for scribbling paddock notes and also to have to hand to see jockey, trainer and owner for when the time came to interview them. Miss those days :(
Timeform also do a pretty informative racecard too. I can remember speaking with former trainer Martin Pipe and he spotted my Timeform and said another form student. Got on like a house on fire and he gave me a horse to follow before the horse had even made its jumps debut. It was Westender who went on to win 7 times over hurdles and placed on 11 occasions. However I did lose £50 on its first jumps race as it tried to refuse and run out and was pulled up so only a tenner went on the next time it raced and won.
Lovely horse with a great attitude to racing and appeared to love Cheltenham too, with 3 wins and reaching the frame 6 times at the track.
A copy of the Racing Post wouldn't go amiss either as the form in racecards and Timeform cards are limited. Timeform does include more than your average racecard but the Post is great for all matter of useful information, such as course/trainer/jockey combinations, race results statistics, who is hot and who is cold in the trainer and jockey tables, how far the horse has travelled etc. Only downside to this is the jumps and wet weather as one tends to return home with a pile of mush than a pristine newspaper lol.

OMG EKW (!)

HOW can you hate Towcester when there are dives like Southwell still open.....

When Toaster stop faffing around trying to get the whip banned entirely and spend more effort on their ground then maybe I might have a bit of respect for them :) I walked the track, it's badly kept, there is next to no grass coverage up the home straight, especially up that long hill, more horses do damage to their legs going up that dead dirt track than at many other courses. The fences are patchy and need replacing. Basically if they stopped pandering to the Fluffy Bunny Huggers, charged an entry fee and took care of their track then I may like then a little more. Oh and their parade ring is dodgey, concrete and full of holes :)

At least with Southwell they look after their track properly. I'm not a fan of Southwell for it's flat racing as that's for beach donkeys BUT they do look after their grass tracks.

I was at Towescester today, as well, my mate was leading one up in the last race, the hunter chase. Was a very good day but rather windy!!! Can't believe in the 2nd last race how much the horse won by 52 lengths?!? Trotted as soon as crossed finish line, looked so effortless!! And they actually ran out of race cards I do believe today so I wouldn't worry to much, but try and get one next time.

I saw that :O I couldn't believe it! It could have walked the last bit and still won by a long way!

Question: Did you see the helicopter? What was that about?

The air ambulances are normally red, (I think) and quite often if back or head injury even suspected then they will use it, I know that sometimes the sir ambulances stays at races/ events all day as a precaution as well. For some reason I thought the helicopter was blue, no idea why though lol .
